Revisiting this thread....
I was fortunate to find windshield moldings in good shape for my V70 ( correct color too!). Since I have roof rails they are only about as long as the windshield. And of course, when I removed them from the junker the clips broke.
(Volvo part #30678009, #25 in this pic: https://parts.volvocarslisle.com/a/Volv ... 16187.html
I ordered new clips from Lisle; the clips appear to slide on/off a small post on the body.
- How do I safely remove the old molding from my car? does it slide off with the clips?
- do I install the new clips onto the car first, then snap the molding onto them?
Thx; I'll update this thread with new install pics if I can.

If you go to the salvage yards enough, you ultimately find decent enough rubber windshield strips that you can carefully remove without mucking them up. I have done this several times with terrific results. Clean/prep rubber strip and moulding section, apply contact cement after blue taping surrounding areas....and good-to-go.
The three or four clips along the windshield typically need to be replaced. To remove the moulding strip...just lift up/leverage over the clip with slow, steady pressure. New ones have to be put in place prior to pressing in/snapping moulding into place.
Also, have a piece of flat ribbon layed below each clip once they are installed on the “post.” When the moulding is snapped into clip, the ribbon is used to pull up on the clip - it ratchets up on post and seats the moulding, elimantes play. And then, you just slide the ribbon out. Need a piece of ribbon for each clip.

1+,
Go to junk yard and gently peel the rubber molding (hopefully a good molding that was not exposed to the sun) off.
Peel the bad molding off your car.
Using 3M adhesive, install the new molding and let it sit for about a few hrs so the adhesive cures.
