The 2000MY uses the Denso engine management system (same as mine), when my pre-cat Lambda probe died last year I spent a good few hours on line searching around the various Volvo part numbers applicable to this car and came up with the Denso DOX-1419 as the correct part, once fitted the fault cleared the mpg was back to normal (typically 35 to 40 MPG - UK gallons) I have had no issues since.

I know a lot of people state you have to use the Volvo OEM exhaust gas probes but a little research and you find Volvo use the Denso probe for the N/A engine cars from 99/00 so why pay a small fortune for a Volvo cardboard box that will only end up in the refuse - Mike

Clear your codes and run the car for a couple of days to see what comes back quickly. Don't order O2 sensors without out giving them the VIN number and the Engine serial number and country where first delivered. Be sure to get the right sensors. Buy some bulbs for the dash too. The replacement looks nasty but it really isn't hard. Be sure to disconnect your battery first to help not trigger an SRS code. Listen to Mike, be 100% about what sensors to get.

It is a MY2000 normally aspirated engine, when you turn the ignition on does an ETS caption illuminate on the dash, if so it is a Denso system - Mike

To be clear, the parts websites are all wrong, and the MY2000 NA cannot use Bosche plugs?

Correct! Bosch TURBO plugs shouldn't be used, however they may make a plug specifically for the non-turbos. Check Bosch's website for accurate info

Correct heat range plugs for 1993-2000 NA are multi-prong NGK with either 3 or 4 prong and are expensive however the genuine plugs can be used as in the pic below.

Having said this I used the Bosch plugs unknowingly in a '95 850 I owned and gas mileage was very good.

Also I have a Denso O2 in stock bought 2 years ago and not used. It can be yours cheaply. PM me if interested. Image

The correct NGK plug is a 4 prong BKR6ETUC

Sorry. By 'plugs' I actually meant the O2 sensors. Sparks plugs already replaced with OEM plugs.

Update: OCT 28

Replaced both O2 sensors. Unhooked battery, touched cables together to reset ECU.

Cleared codes with scanner. Ran the car for a bit, drove it around for about 40 minutes in various conditions.

The two O2 sensor codes are "cleared" but have popped back up under the "pending" category, meaning the ECU has received the fault codes at least once again, and is waiting to see if the code comes up again before displaying it as a permanent fault.

This car is infuriating. Why in the world would two correct, brand new O2 sensors be throwing error codes in the ECU????

I thought working on my Porsche was stressful, but it turns out that the S70 is a much, much bigger money pit and nightmare of a car. Life isn't fair; I always wanted a Lamborghini, but instead I got a volvo that gets the same gas mileage as a Lamborghini.

Cool, you should also know that Porsche helped Volvo design that motor. :p
