It is better to double check everything. If you needed some part later, you already have your VADIS to find it right away without stress or panic. Identify Volvo dealers in your area and arrange a method to get there just in case you need something. Over estimate the time to complete the repair. Give it extra 2 days or more just in case something happens or breaks.
In my experience, there is often something that I need extra, even if I plan well. The unexpected things are the exciting and challenging ones, but executing a well planned repair without any incident is also very satisfying.

- Oil Trap: re-use it.
- Generic heater hoses.
- Order the rest from Volvo dealer.
This is the most cost-effective approach.
If you order the kit, you will end up with stuff you don't need, in other words, throwing your money away.

The thing is, that link you posted also has incomplete information about the variants of the elbow hose and the top hose to the cam cover, plus it is 8 pages long with a lot of extraneous (irrelevant) comments. I completely agree that cobbling together the parts you need is the most economical way to go, but you can't just blindly buy a few part numbers as suggested in the first post, many people have been burned that way.

People are adults and they should know how to read, of course the link I posted are for 1998 S70 GLT and they need to make adjustment to PNs that fit the 850 model.
The idea about that thread I linked is:
- No need to buy the junky vent hose from Volvo, instead use generic hose.
- The oil trap can be re-used.
- All other parts can come from Volvo, which is cheaper than the places mentioned (IPD, and FCP).
BTW, the hose to the top, they may appear different but for the most parts, they fit. For the heck of it, the 850-type hose to the top fits my 2005 XC90 2.5T too! Been there done that. So much for different PNs.
If I were the O.P., I'd:
- Re-use the oil trap
- Order the correct short hose as you mentioned.
- Oetiker vs regular clamps, whatever fits.
- Hose to the top is a no issue for me. Order the correct one and it will fit.
PS:
- Reading a long thread and figure EXACTLY what PNs one needs = difficult task. This is the rewarding path.
- Ordering the kit from blah blah blah = easy task. This will turn out to be painful path wasting money.

My car is also 96 850 2,5 20v ,run close to 230k and need PCV replasement. Serie nr (T) 590408.
I only want to purcase the parts I need for total replasement + vacuum lines to be done when IM is loose, cant find out all part no.

Orlille, you may need a responder from a European site or a visit or call to a dealer for your individual Volvo PNs. US vs. Euro PNs may vary just as the cars do. For instance, my '96 850 is a 2.4.
As for correct parts, almost guarantee the OP has got the right kit on order according to his engine #. Take a look at it. It's not a generic fits-everything kit. It's for late-build 850 NA. It has all the correct size Oetiker clamps.

CN, I read through all the posts I could find on the PCV overhauls, including the heather hose replacement threads (and every post). Although I realize that the parts you suggested certainly would be cheaper (and I definitely like cheaper, esp. as a college student), but what it boiled down to was that the kit was easier. I knew that with the kit, I'd have the parts that I need altogether with reasonably priced 2 day shipping. I'm sure everything will get here by Friday/Saturday, so I can get to work on the car this weekend. This is my first time doing such a large repair, so I wanted to go with the safest, easiest option, which I'd think you could understand. Even more so, I needed to have all the correct parts, since I simply do not have the time to have new parts sent out if I made a mistake.
