For full capacity in the auto environment I would run 8 gauge for > 30 amps. You might also have to run a parallel supply on that circuit as I don’t think the supply is 8 AWG

Hi,

Yeah on my old Hyundai i went right to the battery terminals. Used my own heavy duty fuse holder and fuse.
I recommend putting an inline fuse holder right in line with the positive lead as close to the battery terminal as possible if you do it this way. That means that any shorts to ground by accident anywhere along the wire will blow the fuse and not turn the whole car into a giant light bulb ... for a few seconds :-)
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Does anyone have an idea where to hook into?
Well a few years late but….

Terminal2 on the yellow accessory connector is wired to the X relay. This gives 12 volts in key position II, except when cranking the starter, when it drops to 0V

Thanks Abscate, this is still good knowledge to have.

Now, what I really want to know, does a P2 have an accessory connector or anything like that?

A previous owner of my 1999 V70 R disconnected this accessory connector and tapped into 2 of its pins. I've attached a photo. I read through this thread and didn't really find the information I was looking for -- I was able to answer my own questions with some poking -

What was this connection originally for? What would stop working by disconnecting it?

The other end of this connector has no wiring, it is just a holder for the connector.

Any theories why the previous owner tapped into this connector (looking at the pins they used)? Their wire runs up through the driver a pillar and then I lose track of it.

The wire ran up to an RJ45 connector near the mirror, likely for a radar detector.
