$3000 is absurd to do a valve job. I got my 850 turbo with broken belt and 230k. If you have the time to redo the valves right then take the head off, we used pressurized air and mineral spirits while cleaning the head to check the valves that weren't obviously bent.
In my case I had around 11 bent valves so by the time I got my head gasket kit it was around $300 or something .
The hardest part of everything was lapping in the valves and doing the seals, mine were CAKED on. The whole thing took a little time but I learned a lot about how the car works and now I know everything in there is ok.

Another option is to find a used head and put it on there.
there is one around me in a local yard and I'm pretty sure it's still good. If you can't find one I'd be happy to pull it for you.
