2000 S70 T5 Stalled on freeway
Greetings. Today on my way home my S70 stalled on me. I had a feeling that something was not right . It had what seemed to be a very slight hesitation at freeway speed. Suddenly a loud pop, and it lost power, would not accelerate, then shut off. No dash lights came on or gauges read high before this happened. Thankfully I was able to exit. Looking under the hood coolant was visible on the passenger side of rear motor. Coolant dripping down on rack. No hose that I could see appeared damaged. Open the overflow bottle and the coolant drip was audible and the flow increased. Just towed to mom in laws to keep tow bill down , still a $144 . Any thoughts ? I didn't try to restart to avoid possible damage.

Inspect coolant hoses and coolant manifold running to turbo.
I don't like the fact that it lost power and stalked, though. Sounds like head gasket might have gone

Thanks for the reply. If I am correct, it died after I coasted to a safe place off the freeway. I thought headgasket myself and looked to see. I really couldn't tell at the time. If it is the headgasket, it must have gave way behind the TB cover. All coolant loss seemed to be from that area.

The water pump lives down behind the TB cover on these cars. Do you have a lot of miles on her? Are the hoses all original? There are a lot of small hoses that cool the turbo and oil cooler back there, and a metal manifold pipe that can corrode and fail too.

I think you've blown a head gasket.

Thanks. From what I could see, coolant was leaking from behind TB cover. I considered there may be a busted hose/metal line on the lower end of engine block. Car has 142k miles. Replaced TB, water pump at 126k, 3k after purchase. Hoses/ lines in that area of engine have not . Don't know if they are original. For some reason ,I feel that the hoses that you mention are my problem. I will check for a corroded metal line for sure . Water pump could be a good place to start. That popping sound that I heard just makes hope that your insight is correct. But would that cause a loss of acceleration? When I gassed it there was no acceleration. Love this car too much to give up on her.

It sounds like a popped hose. They do last a long time on these cars...I still
have to finish my all hoses replacement job on my T5 by putting the heater hoses on, the new ones are sitting in my trunk. Those are now 161/2 years old.
But, the lack of power is disturbing. Once you get the car back home, sort out the hoses, top up and try it again.

I heard a pop on my car when one of the hose clamps on the lower radiator hose went to the great beyond. I believe it was an original hose clamp after 15 years of service.

Greetings. I will get a chance to look at my situation tomorrow, trying to beat bad weather. My question is " If the headgasket is not blown, and my leak is due to busted hose. What caused my power loss.?" Thankfully I haven't had to deal with bad Hgaskets before. Thoughts and opinions respected.
