Still not had a chance to take photos, but I have so far only made progress on hopefully now identifying all the parts needed, but also placed the relevant orders now with Valentine Volvo (local dealer) and FCP Euro.

Now edging up higher than I am comfortable with on the budget. It will be about $1400 CDN, so getting close to what I think the car may be worth.

Oh, well.....!

Hopefully once the car is all back together, someone will get a very nice car for a good price.

Any views on the value of a 1997 Volvo 850 SE NA auto, with just under 100,000 miles?

Once complete, both axles will be re-done, 2 engine mounts, 2 sets of wheels, brake flexi-lines replaced, timing and serp belt, oil pump seals, front cam seals, PCV reviewed but hasn't much mileage on it and serviced in recent past? I also plan to have the A/C serviced so everything should be working as intended

Actually there's a 17" rim with thinner tires recommended for this model ( 205/45R17 to be exact). It's certainly not a good option for the regions with poor road quality, but 17" rims can improve the handling on performance orientated models. It's well covered in this tech article: Are Bigger Wheels Better Wheels?

Nice find, good luck with it! A car like this is always worth saving, especially at that mileage,

I ran 205/55/16 on my 850 for years and never really had a rubbing problem. I myself actually like the looks of the slightly bigger tire.

Thanks guys. The tires I have now got are Michelin 205/55/16" I run 225/45/17 on my R but the roads can be a little rough here so I do find them hard!

Neil - if you have gone all over that car and replaced the wear parts, I would not be ashamed to ask 2500-3000 USD for it.

I was think the same in Canadian $'s (about 3/4 of US$) so about $2000-$2500 US. Will have to wait and see what the final tally is. Mind you, if we can find a way around the California Red Tape, I'd love to see the car go to my niece as her first car! Otherwise, it will be sold locally I hope. I'm glad to see my view on the value is not too bad after all!

I've added this link to another thread with a few basic questions:

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 57#p408357

Time for a brief update. I have now got the parts that I need on order. The parts from Volvo dealer arrived today so I can tackle the LH front window guide that has a broken lower mount. New part was discounted for $20 CDN so easier than pulling from PnP even if I could find a good one!
I've also bought 2 new slider blocks as it is the most used window so likely to be worn, so while in there......!

I am somewhat stuck until I get the parts from FCP that are held up due to long weekend. Not their fault, my poor planning and waiting to see if the donated water pump will get here before Canada Post may shut down this week. May be close. Decided to order one after all just in-case. Will pass the other pump on as good karma once it arrives.

I have tackled some simple jobs in readiness for parts arriving. I have pulled the front wheels and cleaned all the bolts that will be un-done and given them a couple of doses of Deep Creep. Hopefully they will simply fall un-done when required to do so. Main worry will be the inner arch connection for the front flexi-brake hoses. Otherwise, other bolts look promising.

I think I mentioned I had replaced the broken windshield washer stalk, but the upper part of the steering column cover has been damaged by someone previously, so now I have a spare from PnP.

PnP also yielded a holder for a cabin filter. I recall our 93 didn't have one either, but thought by 97 it would have been standard.

with little else to tackle available, I decided to repair the front mud flaps as the lower rivets had been pulled through. Drilling the lower 3 rivets out, allowed me to pivot the mud-flaps to remove a whole load of dirt that filled both of them! This is a picture of the crap that came out of them:

Car must have been off road at some point!! Is this a missing Volvo rally car?

Other than the questions raised in the link I am now planning to tackle the window tomorrow unless the boss decides the yard-work is the priority!

Took some more pictures of the car today:

Looks like someone drove over a kerb or concrete stop block they use here and then backed off it!
