98V70 NA - Cant shift into drive - key stuck in ignition

No matter if my car is new or old and even if I have a flat driveway (I do have a flat driveway).
I always chock the diagonal wheel: if I am working on LF wheel, then I chock RR wheel, BOTH the fore and aft parts of that tire.

Rocks, Bricks, Rubber chocks, 4x4 wood etc. Most people have these things lying around.
arbor Freight sells the rubber chocks for about $7 or so.

Like I said, I have chocks and didn't use them. I wont do that again.

Parking brake overhaul (actually all 4 corners plus parking brake) has been on the list for awhile. I plan to put on 4 new rotors, new pads, new rubber seals and hoses and all new parking brake components. Its a fairly involved task and I have a life that doesn't involve the 98 volvo. I just cant spend every Saturday working on it. I was unaware that the parking brakes didn't function well in reverse. They work fine going forward.

Hey, I DO understand! I've been catching up on EVERYTHING else since my monumental wrenching ended. Never married so there's only ME to do it all, both inside & out.

Make it easier on yourself: If your PB pads aren't worn out, all you need is a much-simpler rear star-wheel adjustment. I'm still on the original from-the-factory PB pads installed in Sweden....19yrs. ago! Plenty of material left too. I simply needed to adj. out the cable stretch. A few star-wheel clicks in the right direction and I was good. No worries.

There shouldn't be any difference between CW and CCW rotation regarding PB holding power. How could that be? Doesn't make sense. At least, now you know. AND you were incredibly lucky no one was injured and your vehicle wasn't damaged!
