The 2001 was blessed with the 5 speed, neutral stop software, and the M/M Electronic Throttle Body for the Trifecta of Tears.

The motor is solid on these cars and so is the 4 speed transmission as long as it's serviced properly. The AWD can always be converted back to FWD, ultimately that's really what the chassis is (FWD). But if yo u do but it then service the Angle Gear fluid immediately and rear differential fluid. Check the center carrier bearing for any play beyond spec. Everything can be repaired or replaced but that depends on why your buying it. I fell in love with the P80 chassis and I really need the AWD during winter because I use her in middle of night for work doing a lot of driving in worst weather so AWD is a must.
Doesn't the 2000 have the newer 5 speed? My 1998 had the 4 speed. June
I believe only the P2 chassis Volvo V70XC's that were produced at the end of the 2000 model run had the 5speed automatic transmission. I had a 2000 V70XCSE and it was a 4 speed automatic transmission but it was the P80 chassis.

They are - I think they are still P80 chassis though. Certainly more P80 than P2

In P80 cars the 5-speed auto trans was only installed in 2000 base models and 2000 V70R's to my knowledge. P2 is another story.

In 2000 the P2 body was badged V70XC but still had the 2.4l turbo, 5 A/T and Haldex generation 1 ADD system. 2003 got the 2.5l turbo motor and gen Haldex AWD system.
2000 was a split year, p80 body and p2 body offered. I like them both but p80 corners a little better because of lower center of gravity and rear suspension. If you gonna get P2 get '03 & up.

For a P2 I would only buy a 05-07 which were the best of them. I am the lucky guy with both a 00 V70R and a 00 V70 base! Guess which transmissions they both have!

The V70XC is a weird one in 00. I think I recall seeing a P80 being sold as a 01 model and with a 5 speed auto. Could have been an error on the sellers part or maybe some did make it through with the 5 speed auto at the end of the run. Most though were 4 speed autos.

Probably wrong but I thought it was 04 when the P2 AWD system was upgraded to the newer Haldex system.

I really wanted to go with an 07 on my P2 AWD, I agree 05-07 and several trusted forum voices convinced me that 07 are the best among those few years. I settled for an 06 when a very good one came up in our small market.
