Just a note to Euro peeps - check your part# and make sure you get a Euro bin file to tweak/flash. Most people seem to think US/Eur files are interchangeable, but I found a whole heap of undeciphered differences between two US/Eur files that were supposed to be identical.

What does the "CHK:" stand for in that listing? Any idea?

Just curious, how does one go about removing the immobilizers from the bin files? The VS versions of the -607 and -608 bins have that stripped out of them.
I think that was also part of the reason I couldn't get a working flashed ECU when we were messing with the original ECU in the wife's '97 GLT (-936). It's an M4.4 ECU, but didn't play nice with the AC (No, not even with the software fix)

Originally, I had someone compile the bin from a chip pulled from a '-936 ECU. That bin would not work if flashed to a second -936 ECU, nor would it work on a '98MY ECU. The car would basically start then die in either case. (Nor would the -936 ECU take another M4.4 bin)

It's ultimately been fixed by taking the AC routines from the -936 and adding them for the -607 (or -608) VS bins, but was just curious if perhaps the immobilizer was a potential issue.

I know there were differences between the -936 and other M4.4 ECUs when I compared them, but not really sure what they were for.

I opened finally my M4.4 as i want get it working better on the bench and i tried simulate RPM sensor to it and i actually once got it output data which it didn't before output. Sadly it was hiccup i couldn't yet replicate it. Seems i may need do CMP sensor too in same time.

Now understood that these modified *.bins may disable diagnostics even.. maybe? From wiki:
"Note that if you simply start the car, without enabling logging, you will have no logging and OBD-II (or VST, etc) functionality. Sending the "o" to disable the listener was added to enable scanning the car if it's in a no-start condition for diagnostic purposes."

So trying flash original -607 which i found from my collection of bins.

Mine had already socket on EEPROM and its using 27C2001 which is larger chip so i got 256 kb out of it.... but it seems like looping so maybe they used what they found.


Sadly i haven't got far to replace my Fenix 5.2 with this M4.4. And i noticed its missing one chip at corner so maybe this unit could not even handle automatic(?).

P.S. Fail. Mine has EPROM OTP chip.. thats why i was not able erase or write to it.. feeling like an idiot many times during the day

A12 Wake up or Ignition ON (+12V) from Terminal 15


A41 (GND - OUT) 2/32 (Main Relay Fuel Injection - Relay 106) (Command)
A26 (+12V - IN) 2/32 (Main Relay Fuel Injection - Relay 106) (Parallel with the Ignition input Terminal 30, ECU gets power via 11B/1 fuse)

Relay 106 has Diode on pins between A41 and A26.

Beeping between and A26 and A12 makes my 106 relay to engage from On Off.


When i turn "ignition switch" ON it switches relay. But when i turn Ignition OFF my relay stays ON still for long time.


The last one.. Turning Ignition Off when Motronic has no memory chip installed is instant off so there is timer inside program keeping relay On.

So, are you trying to do an M4.4 swap into your Fenix 5.2 car?

Looking over wiring diagrams and pin-outs for the ECM/TCM between the F5.2 and the M4.4, I would think swapping out the engine and chassis-side harnesses is going to be a part of your swap. (Unless all of the appropriate pin locations are populated in your ECM/TCM connectors).
I know looking back at a couple NA to turbo swaps that had supposedly been done, swapping out the chassis-side of the harness between the ECM/TCM and the fuse/relay box was part of the process.

Just trying to get an idea of what you're trying to do.

Top of my head only map/ maf pins makes issue in controller but could been more there.


At moment not going to do swap as mine M4.4 missing some chip which i guess required for automatics. If someone has M4.4 what chip is there if i can see markings of it? Its bosch chip (hard to find surely..) near the connector at top side of the board.

Now just gonna try make it run on bench with fake engine signals so i can wake it up to take signals in which it doesn't at moment... But gonna need replace the OTP memory chip with something i can flash again so project is on hold for some time for now.

I think there are also different/more connections to the TCM on the M4.4. (Judging by looking at the wiring schematics). Didn't get a chance to dig into what they were.

There isn't shouldn't be any difference in the ECU hardware in respect of the transmission. You can run an auto or a manual from the same ECU, with the proper bin loaded onto it. "Most" turbo ECUs in the US are for auto cars, so they could just have those bits by default, I suppose.

What that chip may do as in M4.4 pdf pictures i can see that chip there and couple resistors like to choose config of the hw of the system so i am curious of that honestly as i don't have chip and resistors are in different placement that why so. Wiki didn't explain this if i did read them all. Maybe they used different chips later revision and included functions elsewhere to save costs(?)

Anyway it would be great then if this could run automatic. I need just mostly MAF in to my system i suspect and floor it.
