A lot of the M4.4 bins are mapped out, though they do require checksums. That has been taken care of by the guys who started up over on VolvoSpeed though, as with most of what is known about the Motronic 4.4 system. Making modifications is easy - the relatively hard part is making safe modifications.

However, flashing a stock R file to a turbo ECU, either M4.4 or M4.3 is very, very easy, and the files are available.

Btw, I have a reliable, Euro-spec stock M4.3 auto T5R/R file (the 627 bin, 250 HP), if anyone needs or wants it. :)

Edit; I also have the 074 bin, the Euro auto stock T5 (225 HP) Also M4.3.

So, did anyone make any progress with this? The used ECU market here is a long way away from $25 ea (think more $150-180), but I would be very interested in an R-mapped ECU.

I've flashed my ECU a few times following the instructions on the M4.4 wikia, nothing really hard if you're a bit handy with computers and electronics. I'm doing it ECU out of the car, so all it takes is a 14V power supply, a vag com, a PC and a few wires :)

Got my stock map modified to run green injectors instead of the stock oranges, works fine.

Are you wanting an M4.3 ECU? Do you know what code you're looking for? (Not sure what the proper R ECU is for your area) It looks like Sommerfeldt had an M4.3 R bin available.

Flashing the M4.3 ECU isn't much different than doing the same to the M4.4 stuff. I thought there was some difference in what pins needed to be connected at the ECU to enable flashing, but the old "M43 Wiki" site is gone.

I'd be quite happy to upgrade to 4.4, and don't (yet) know what code I would need. Were I to attempt it myself I'd need to do heaps more research, but the upfront costs of used ECUs here is off-putting.

Car is MY96, MCC, A/C, manual. Has an immobilizer, but no emissions guff (SAS or EGR).

I'm sure I have those files floating around on my old laptop somewhere.
Send me a DM if you need one, or more. :)

Thanks, Matthew and Sommerfeldt. If I ever get my hands on a spare ECU, those will be perfect. Don't have the confidence to try it on my current ECU without a spare, the car is in daily use afterall. Abscate, you may well be onto something there...!

Does anyone knows if I can find a brand new female ecu plug ? I would like to make a flashing station, and to get a plug of a donor car you need to cut the loom :x
