OK, this has been a wild goose chase. All for nothing. When I replaced the intake gasket after putting all the stuff back together with the old on. NO more miss.... Car runs excellent and I did buy a Volvo battery for that particular model and it took a bit but it started and ran strong. I suspect a bad alternator maybe, but for now it runs like a champ................. with my experience you start with the easy stuff then you move onto the harder stuff if that doesn't work. I didn't deem a compression test was valid, possibly checking signal wire from ecm to coil connector but WHY? I didn't mess with anything there, back track your steps, use your brain to analyze WHERE you may have gone wrong and you WILL find the answer.

Never reuse a gasket. If you went through the trouble to get it off, replace it while you got everything open.

Yes, I only reused it because it had just been replaced 3 months ago. But yes, for the small cost of a gasket and all the extra time to find out why you have a problem, change it while you're in there. That's how come I did the PCV box "AGAIN" as it had just been done 3 months ago by a shop, but the box didn't look new. so I redid it

Oil trap looked older then 3 months, gasket replacement fixed the problem. Sounds to me like that shop cuts corners.
Oil traps and PVC components can be cleaned out instead of being replaced if, there are no air leaks. Not recommended because of the age on the components, one is likely to need to do it over sooner than replacing the parts. For a shady shop, more work is a good thing, not good for the customer's wallet.

yeah this shop did work on the car before i bought it. Seems the people who had it kept bringing it back for the intermitent crank no start. I am thinking it may have a weak alternator as sometimes, when car sits a while it takes a bit to get it started..... once it starts and runs it's fine....... i shielded that positive cable and put a new genuine Volvo crank sensor. Do these cars have a cam sensor too? 2001 S60 2.4 T?
