Re: PSA: Doylestown, PA 1999 Volvo S70 AWD Runs/Drives Doomed for Scrap
Owner paid $1k for it without realizing how much Volvo's can cost at a shop (especially in Philadelphia). I got her to say $600, but she would crazy not to accept any offer above scrap value if she's just gonna scrap the car anyway.

Interesting, looks like an 850 wing with the 3rd brake light.
Probably not a blow off valve, my cousin actually just got the iPd short ram intake and those open filters make the CBV sound LOUD! It's really crazy!
That car looks pretty good overall though. I would definitely pay $400-500 for it if it was nearby.

How much of a pain is rear shocks/struts on an AWD vs. a FWD?

Believe it or not, the rear shocks are easier on AWD than FWD. The only thing you'll need to keep in mind is that the rear end needs to be raised up pretty high, as the shock goes through the lower control arm. Otherwise, it's just the two bolts that hold the bottom of the shock to the control arm and then a large nut at the top that holds the shock and 2-piece mount to the chassis.WhatAmIDoing wrote: ↑18 Apr 2019, 19:36 How much of a pain is rear shocks/struts on an AWD vs. a FWD?
You can drop them out in about a minute with an impact!

I'm really tempted to pick this up the more I think about it. It can join the hopefully soon to be mine '95 850 Turbo and '98 V70 T5M. How much do you think would be a fair offer for a 1999 S70 AWD with some added goodies, 2 sets of wheels and tires, minor cosmetic damage, torn driver's seat and door card, shot shocks and struts, no driveshaft, hole in muffler, and a "binding steering wheel"?

I think $400 would be fair. Seems to have a few issues, but it definitely looks like it's worth saving.

Just received a pic of the other wheels. They are 4 Ariane's in good condition, painted matte gray. Tires have like new tread. Might throw in a little extra just for those. I've never actually seen Ariane wheels in person before.

Are those the stock S70 AWD wheels? I like them! Those are decent tires too. My dad has a set of those on his E39 528iT.

Those are some great looking rims. I think you're going to have to buy it just for that. Tires are not cheap these days

Wish they were 16" rims, but regardless they look good. Don't think they were the stock wheel offering for the AWDs, but I may be wrong. Hopefully one of the wheel experts can chime in. Even if I can't get the car, I think I'll try for the wheels and tires. Doesn't look like anyone has a set for sale online.
Edit: I just received word from the PO that this engine is a HPT from an R, and the driveshaft was pulled to prevent damage to the rear end from the extra power. Not sure I believe any of that, but if it's true...
