7........huh.

So...."other"...a catch-all for misc plastics.

"The #7 category was designed as a catch-all for polycarbonate (PC) and “other” plastics, so reuse and recycling protocols are not standardized within this category. Of primary concern with #7 plastics, however, is the potential for chemical leaching into food or drink products packaged in polycarbonate containers made using BPA (Bisphenol A). BPA is a xenoestrogen, a known endocrine disruptor.

"Number 7 plastics are used to make baby bottles, sippy cups, water cooler bottles and car parts. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastic food containers often marked on the bottom with the letters “PC” by the recycling label #7. Some polycarbonate water bottles are marketed as ‘non-leaching’ for minimizing plastic taste or odor, however there is still a possibility that trace amounts of BPA will migrate from these containers, particularly if used to heat liquids."

Im guessing that the tank is HDPE with some kind of liner for the fuel container. That plastic liner means it can't be recycled as HDPE so it get the 7-OTHER

Maybe thats the PEHD-SS labelling?

FOr purposes of welding, I would try an HDPE weld - I bet that works outside.

God, this guy is good.

Just got off the phone with a friend at Dupont. SELAR is a Dupont Nylon, designed to be mixed with HDPE product, and was used in fuel tanks for Volvo, Kia, Saab, Mitsubishi, Toyota.

Final Answer - its an HDPE tank, with a Nylon additive for compatability with ethanol fuels.

"High-Density Polyethylene, usually shortened to HDPE or PEHD, is a plastic polymer with flexible properties which make it ideal for a wide range of applications.

"High-density polyethylene, as the name suggests, has a higher specific density than low-density polyethylene, though this difference is only marginal. What really makes the difference in the physical properties of HDPE is the lack of branching, meaning it is light with a high tensile strength. Because there is no branching the structure is more closely packed, make HDPE a linear polymer. The branching can be controlled and reduced by using specific catalysts during production.

"HDPE has many advantageous properties that make it important in the manufacturing of different products. HDPE has a comparatively high density compared to other polymers, with a specific gravity of 0.95. HDPE is relatively hard and resistant to impact and can be subjected to temperatures of up to 120oC without being affected."

That's 250F....is the tailpipe 10" away generating 250º?

So, is this telling me it's a variation of HDPE, and why not classify it as #2 then? SS usually refers to stainless...that could be coincidence.

Here's a gate valve from a company in the UK made from "PEHD 500".....

The Nylon additive prevents it from being recycled as (2), as it is a mix - thus its a sad (7) OTHER
