I thought I detected rough running for the last two week at startup and cold idle, but after 60 seconds idle was smooth, so I took no action. I did check #3 plug and found it at 0.032 with some tip wear, and meant to compare it to new, plugs have 24k on them, Volvo OEM style. Coils estimated to be 80k miles, OEM Bosch

Leaving downtown ROCHESTER, two hours after a long drive, I had a missing cylinder, low power, and bad exhaust smell. It cleared after 5 minutes of driving to my next destination. I then headed out 490 towards Buffalo, and the miss returned with a CEL.

The incident

I was able to reach my ObD in the glove box and read codes, and had two...P0352 #2 coil primary failure and #2 misfire P0302

The repair

I pulled over, T25 for cover, M6 for coil screw, spare coil from parts kit, installed and miss cleared. I will test today on the drive home.

Waze told me instead of being 15 minutes early to my next destination, I was now only 8 minutes early. I lost one minute saying hello to the guy who pulled over to help in the first 30 seconds. It’s A Buffalo thing.

Analysis
Relatively early coil failure. I will order a replacement but have to think about replacing other four coils. This same repair on the GW would suck.
Is this that car you were referring to when you said 'eron' on my part donation post?

My Enron stock ?

:)

I have a 1998 that I need to pull the motor and trans this fall before year end. I can’t get to the motor mount parts until I get the big pieces off. I think Thanksgiving week will be earliest I can get to it.

Yes wcm got the horns that day. By kicking us back into pure diagnostic mode, we figured out the failures were unrelated

Moving the bad component moved the P030x code

The spark plugs were replaced a week after the coil failure, and ran fine for another week after
