Thank you, I have been beside myself and on overload with other crap in my world. I just installed another starter from a junkyard but I know it's a good one. I tried starting it but it doesn't. It drags and there is a squeal,what is that squeal? ? I just now got the time with her ( my850) and back on line. I know she'll start if I can just find the problem.that squeal when I try starting her is what bothers me. I am going to try everything you suggested most likely tomorrow morning,as I'm busy with stuff just Stuff

It cranks, then squeals, may it be my flywheel?

if so I may have to say goodbye to her. This morning I'm going to try pushing her in drive a stretch and see. I'm also going to tackle a few things FireFox suggested, but I've got a real bad feeling Chuck, I'm gonna be real sad if it is.what do you think? I also installed a new Bosch alternator. And a New Battery. So all 3 including starter is not an issue, and There isn't anyone around here that will touch a Volvo.

Naw Abscate ,I'm in the high desert, but up here no one is real big on Volvos. We have 3 in my town and that includes me Lol. can you tell me on my 5cyl. 850 "94" wagon if I push her some ft. will it turn the flywheel.im about to cry if it is the fw. Please respond asap.Thanks

If it is a stick shift and in gear then yes is the answer. If it is an auto then no. However, if it is an auto, you could turn the engine with a wrench and the crank pulley bolt.
