What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

There are at least three styles I’m familiar with; the hex threaded one with a nipple, the 1/4ctwist and oring seal one, and a threaded thumb screw one.

Wait…four…the rubber stopper wired in place that I ran on my T5 for three years

Just finished changing front control arms and ball joints on the 07 XC70. The factory originals (180k) were still working well but the bushings all showing visible signs of fatigue. The ball joint boots were cracked but not breached, the ball joints were only slightly loose. So the post-mortem is I could have very likely let them all remain in service another 10k+ miles but I wanted to do this job when convenient for me not when they failed. Installed Lemforder control arms and ball joints. Pieced together a PVC pipe coupler to tap in the ball joint, very straightforward.

I also replaced the driver's side front wheel bearing. The passenger side went out about two weeks ago and I replaced it. I replaced the driver's side preventively because it's so easy to add on with the steering knuckle out. Installed FAG bearings. Didn't forget to install a new dust seal (Volvo brand)!

Next up replace the parking brake shoes and change the oil, then it goes back on the road.

I never considered buying one new w/ a junk yard so close to me. I was curious so I looked on volvopartswebstore. It had a diagram number, but nothing below in the part number section. No part number is stamped on the plug.

Do they sell just the plug itself? I have an aftermarket (TYC) radiator and I'm always way over-cautious when removing that plug because I thought it wasn't a part you could purchase. Mind sharing a part number?”

Spent most of the day running errands. I'm glad my AC works, although I think it might need recharged (possibly oiled, too, to quiet the pump down).

I did look down to see the odometer was at 183200 miles.

AC doesn't work on the S60. I put dye into it but haven't been arsed to get a hold a of a UV light to inspect. I think I'll just recharge it again.. leak check is next years problem (I'm lazy..)

Replaced the spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter. I piddled around a bunch on the XC and S60. I’m going to do the timing belt service as soon as the water pump arrives w/ the sealant treated bolts. Those two have been in and out of stock and I just didn’t catch them at the right time. I saw them in stock last evening and I ordered them. The XC should be pretty up to date w/ service when I complete that.

This is on my list, my control arms look a bit worse than yours. Any noticeable improvement in drive quality after the job?

I also wondered if it would make a difference. After two days of usage (today is the third) including 100 highway miles I do notice improvement. The car wasn't wandering or showing obvious signs of bad control arms before, so it still drives straight etc., but it is sightly quieter and smoother for sure.
