Nice! ;)

Zener diode is for safety.

As said elsewhere, I was rebuilding my blown engine. It is up and running now, but I need to pass a long overdue yearly inspection, for which the car should have no codes erased for last 100 or 200 miles (erasing codes zeroes emissions readiness). I'll try it in car once I get a new sticker on the windshield.

hi vtl,
hi all,
now I have to try it on my XC90
and hope that it works.
Are there any other disadvantages of resetting the CEM pin?

What do you mean by "resetting"? Setting it to 0?

Depends on who you are. For Volvo, VDASH and alike folks it's a loose-loose situation when prospective customer can figure the PIN out on his own ;) Otherwise I don't see any drawbacks of being able to keep your old good car on the road for a bit longer and for a bit cheaper.

I have just ventured a test on the car.
As soon as I connect the OBD2 connector and after the message "sending CEM into programming Mode" I set the ignition to position 2, the serial monitor shows the following message

CPU Maximum Frequency: 600000000
CPU Frequency: 180000000
Execution Rate: 180 cycles/us
Minimum CEM Reply Time: 30us
Platform: P2
PIN bytes to measure: 3
Number of samples: 30
Number of loops: 1000

Initialization done.

sending CEM into programming mode
send: ID=000ffffe data=ff 86 00 00 00 00 00 00
send: ID=000ffffe data=ff 86 00 00 00 00 00 00

calculating bytes 0-2

After that, the XC90 is dead.
Until I with VDASH all the ECUs in the car
reboot and brought back to life.

Is it everything it prints? You're missing CAN setup messages and CEM part number readout.

I will connect a charger to the car tomorrow; because the car battery is very quickly empty, as soon as OBD2 is connected.

I thought I could make it like you in YOUTUBE

The battery might may have a build up of Lead Sulfate Crystals ( sulfation ). Move the battery inside and let it float charge for a couple of days, weeks, months. The float charging will convert the Lead Sulfate Crystals back into lead and you will regain capacity. How long it take depends on how bad it is. If your battery charger has a pulse mode the pulses will speed up desulfation.

Tip: When the battery charger says fully charged. Disconnect charger for 20 minutes then reconnect charger. Keep doing this until it only takes a few minutes to go from reconnect to full charge. Thereafter keep the battery on float charge to maintain it by keeping it from sulfating again
