That sounds nice. Definitely couldnt pay for my schooling with a Sumner job.
My pay was cheap, but my state university in 1970's was also cheap. It seems like the pay was about $6 per hour with some overtime. Tuition was around $30 per semester hour and monthly dorm with meals was about $150. A lifetime of engineering salary - priceless!

Prepping yesterday for today's job of giving the V70 a brake fluid change, I have no paperwork of it ever being done before and if it really is 18 years old it's long overdue. Today's job was to try and loosen the bleed screws which I really wasn't looking forward to. The plan was to soak all the nipples with PlusGas overnight in the hope they would come out without breaking. However I was a tad impatient and with both rear wheels removed and the bleed screws soaked them in Plus Gas I decided to start by lightly tapping the surrounding area with a small hammer, first one side, then the other, more PlusGas and more tapping and repeat. I then dug out my vintage Snap-On RXSM-11 flare nut spanner which I've had for over 45 years and applied some pressure to the bleed nipple. to my surprise they cracked open and I allowed a small amount of fluid seep out. The front was done with the same procedure and all 4 are ready for today if I manage to source the correct but rather scarce DOT4+ fluid.

While I had wheels off I decided to test fit the recently refurbished Mimas winter wheels to make sure they were not rubbing, glad I did this before winter as I had to remove the excess the powder coating from the centre bore which is a total ballache to do.

Brake feel was significantly improved on my 08 S60 with a brake fluid change (mine was unknown age too), need to do that on my C70. I used an air compressor powered brake bleeder and definitely helped speed the job.

Im working on replacing the radiator right now as it has a leak. I was taking the plastic splash guard thing out from under the radiator and... You'll never guess what fell out when I took it off. A 10mm socket!

I was driving with a 13 mm socket on a rear engine pad bolt for like 4 or 5 years.

I finally got the new radiator in as well as some new coolant hoses. This video really helped:

No difference in by brakes now that the fluid has been changed but it will make braking safer without the moisture content of the past 18 years

This is what 18 year old brake fluid looks like?

I finally found an effective method of deep cleaning the leather seats. A friend of mine is a professional detailer and recommended a product that actually gets all the grime out of the grains of the leather, I used Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner and a drill brush (soft bristle). The cleaner cost $16 for 500ml, the whole seats front and back used about 1/3 of the bottle and the job took under an hour. I should have taken before AND after pictures but I can assure you that the seats were filthy before as I have 2 Labrador retrievers that are almost always with me in the car, going swimming and trudging around the muck at the dog park. I would highly recommend this product, however I really think the drill brush is also necessary to get the leather looking like new.

Those look really good for 20 year old seats! Good to know now as I could do with tackling the Toyota light beige seats.

P80GLT, I also have a Snap-on flare wrench. One of the best purchases I have made tool wise!

That brake fluid needed changed but seen worse!

Neil.
