Where is the protective brown coating on your suspension system?
That was not an option here in California :)

A a month ago I started to get the funny idle hesitation when coming to a stop that makes people think their ETM or MAF is starting to fail. on my 1999 s70 the throttle body was already replaced by previous owner with an Xemodex unit so I was hoping it wasn't failing again. I decided to clean the MAF and see if that helped.

After I bought some MAF cleaner I read some instructions on the web and found a lot of people who have doubts that cleaning a MAF even works. Well shoot.

I decided to try anyway and even after the first spray, a lot of residue appeared on the paper towel I was using to collect the run off of cleaner. I kept spraying and draining and eventually put it all back together.

Idles fine now and there hasn't been any return of the odd idle drop or stumbling.
Hopefully it stays that way.

That's a plus of owning a car that's been in NC all its life... no brown protective coating!

Swapped in some struts, spring seats, and strut bearings on my brother's 2000 V70.

Two things learned:
- Wow, those top nuts come off with an impact.
- Channellocks (16" ones) are useful for taking off the star-shaped nut.

+1. That's my go-to on the cross nut.

Today I changed the air filter on my 1999 V70 and started AT flush. I managed to change the oil from the pan but I did not have a wright hose to put on radiator so I improvise something and than .....shock. My upper radiator hose is not the one for flushing job, it is the down hose. Who would think of that, I shoul check that first...It was late and I will continue next time. It is impossible to check the AT fluid level because my dipstick cracked and it is still in the tube, however I manage to put new dipstick in but now I can´t see the level because I don´t have easy acces to dipstick because of the gas installation and wires and new dipstick ataches to old one and it is always covered with AT fluid. My dipstick tube is not removable so that option is off. So I must believe that there is wright fluid level or I will go crazy.

Before the strut job on the 2000 V70, I flushed the radiator and changed both radiator houses (Rein, with spring clips included!) and expansion tank hoses (Volvo), put in a new thermostat and replaced the coolant with the blue stuff.

Both radiator hoses were Volvo, possibly original, and swelling near the clamps.

In the process, found the front power steering pump looking degraded, and my brother noticed that the serpentine belt was installed upside down.

Your brother has been fooled by the bastards, 1999-2000, which change from his one sided serpentine belt to a two sided ribbed belt as the routing on your superior 2000 model.

One of the awesome mods here just recently posted a "serpentine belt routing" thread which shows both and the change.

Maybe he hasn't heard, while he was away upstate...you don't shine IACs anymore....

Bruce,
Ask him to flip it over for you, sit back and enjoy :)

In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
