Ordered a rust proofing set with a remote reservoir to help with those under the jack stand situations. Will try it on saturday after an oil change and winter tire switch over. Curious to see the undercarriage of my partners car to see how the stuff worked after a year. I can say that the rust on the side of her car has not gotten any thicker, seems to have spread a bit under the paint but has not gone through.

The gun should pay for itself with the fleet of family cars and some friends cars this year. Model was a lemmer RP460 with remote reservoir kit. Was a bit pricy but the previous year was a pain since the bottle kept getting in the way while spraying.

Oh yes, vaguely remember brother saying at about 6000' a certain type of perhaps pines will grow. He pointed that out as we were on the freeway while I was visiting. The tree line where growth starts was pretty obvious.

Clocks go back on Sunday so winter is officially upon us therefore I decided to put the winter wheels/tyres on even though it's a toasty 13°C today.

Thor wheels with 225/45R17 Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 removed ready to be cleaned and stored.

Replaced with Mimas wheels with 205/55R16 Continental WinterContact TS 870.

I've not driven the car yet with the winter tyres so it will be interesting to see if there is any difference between 16"/17" on the rough roads around here. Both tyre sizes are the correct Volvo recommended size for my car and the overall diamater difference is minimal so speedo should be almost spot on

Seems like everyone is putting the winters on this week. Just put my Michelin X-ice's on yesterday and pulled the block heater cord through the grill for easy access and installed some Bosch ICON wipers. P80GLT; what vehicle are your 17 inch rims off of? And what type of winter road conditions exist in your part of the world. If I had a car that nice I'd have a hard time taking it out of the garage in inclement weather!

Beautiful car and a beautiful shop. Even the wiring looks great for your electrics. Damn, if you ever do a shop tour here then let me know as i will know what i want to base my shop off of in 20-30 years.

@ Blacklab467:
The 17" rims are the original Thor wheels that were fitted to the V70 when it was new, the 16" rims are Volvo Mimas which came off an S60 and I had them refurbished. Weather here can vary a lot during winter, most days will be around or below freezing, snow will last 3 or 4 days at a time and will clear up and snow again and again. My daughter lives in the Scottish Highlands a couple of hours north of Glencoe which is covered in snow for months at a time so I need good traction when driving up to visit her. This is the first time in 15 years that I've not owned a 4 wheel drive car so it will be interesting to see how the V70 handles the snow with the winter tyres, I don't foresee any problems. Unfortunately I don't have another car to use in the winter, the V70 has been coated in Lanoguard so should be fine. I do hose down the underside during the winter to keep the salt at bay. I think I have everything covered

@yanga001:
Thanks you for your kind words. I built the garage between 2008 and 2010, it was a massive learning curve researching during the evenings, working my day job and fitting the build in when I had time available. The electrics took a lot of research to get my head round. I have 3 phase (415v) coming into my house but only a single phase (240v) was connected. I wanted/needed that 3 phase to run to the garage so I had to learn about 3 phase, how to wire it the equipment required to use. Turning it on the first time was a squeaky bottom moment.

Installed winter tires in the dead of night yesterday, noticed my rear driver inner brake pad is much more worn then the outer. I suspect a seizing caliper so ill get that fixed. Also noticed the passenger balljoint did not seat correctly so ill call my mechanic when i get time.

Did an oil change at 9000 km, fluid looked okay, will probably keep it at this interval with penz ultra plat 5w 30. New volvo oil filter of course. Forgot the gasket for the filter but realized before i started the car. Was relieved oil didnt come out of that area so it wasnot a mess. Pump needs to activate to go through the filter first.

Looking to rustproof now, will report with photos later today.

Rust proofing was entertaining. Took a long time because the s60 seemingly sits lower then my old 98 v70 and i installed 15 inch rims with 195 winters on it. Access was...difficult. It would not be possible with a conventional potted rust proofing gun, the remote reservoir was required. The gun performed very very well and tomorrow ill be doing another 2 SUV's with signficantly higher clearance.
