The capacity of your car's cooling system is just over 8 quarts. About 2 gallons.

he should at least bring a set of ramps when he does road work, you can't see the radiator drain by bending down and looking, you have to get underneath and look up. its quite recessed .
a perfectly acceptible proceedure to fill the system is fill with coolant, leave the fill cap off, start the car and watch the level.
when the thermostat opens the bottle will empty, just keep filling as the car idles.
put the cap on and driver around the block, when the low coolant warning comes up you can stop the engine, carefully remove the fill cap, top it off and its done. if theres still air in the system then he installed the thermostat upside down.
its designed to self bleed.
later today i'll make a quick video to show how simple the elm 327 is to use and how it will tell you the exact temp of your coolant.

Oh my goodness I honestly feel like I probably didn’t even need a new thermostat or I feel like something is put in there wrong I even though $250 is not a lot. It’s a lot for me and I feel like I’ve just wasted $250 for nothing. I was way too trusting and I guess it all seemed too good to be true that somebody would be kind and all the times he came out and looked at my car and didn’t even charge me for looking in. He was not able to because of him not having and being a mechanic, but I thought everything was OK , I am very disgusted with myself to be honest. He told me that there was probably a lot of air in the hoses and that’s why that was happening while the water was going down like that. He did say my my thing held 3 gallons and it was OK if I keep filling it a good thing I have been filled it anymore , I have learned to Volvo Elyssa have someone that knows about them to fix it because now I hope I didn’t ruin my car that’s for sure

He told me that my car held about 3 gallons so that I could keep adding antifreeze to it. The problem is it’s the 50-50 and I don’t want to put straight antifreeze in there and plus he said it was 3 gallon but it’s obviously not just like he said that my car did not have anything underneath it and the plug to pull to drain it. He said the only way to drain. It was to take off the hose and try to drain it like that or he said if it went to Volvo, they probably had some big machine to drain it, I knew that didn’t sound right

move on - forget him.
lets get it fixed.heres a quick videoof my ELM 327, ,
the camera ran out of space so it cut off but it shows how to plug it in,
starting ther app and looking at the temperature.
it showed 123F before the camera shut off.
Should the fan be running?, only if the AC is on or the exact temp is going over 220F. This will tell you.
Its hard to have a conversation if we don't know the temperature.

Wow, thank you so so much. I have got to try to get working on this right away and you’re right. I need you to forget about that guy because he was messaging me last night and had a 1230 or 1 AM and I finally messaged him back telling him I was trying to go to sleep. He was messaging me telling me that he did everything right and he was telling me that there is no way on my car to let any of the water or antifreeze out, that Volvo probably has a big machine to do that. I kept sending him links showing him he was wrong. He did not believe me. I mean, I may be a female and I may be old, but I’m able to read to people on here. tell me and to read it myself and to see that he’s wrong . It’s been very stressful. I probably went to Volvo would’ve been more than $251 but I feel like I just put $251 out the window pretty much because I bet I didn’t even need a thermostat but why my car lost all the antifreeze and why it overheated technically Three weeks ago I don’t know that’s why I was hoping he was going to test my car he never even did a pressure test or anything, but you’re right I just need to move on. I actually blocked him because I didn’t continue getting messages where he doesn’t want to apologize or admit anything that he’s wrong. I mean nobody is perfect and I feel like I was taking advantage of .

Now that little thing that you’re using, where did you get that? How do I go about buying one of those to test my car it would be Amazon or any auto parts store or what?
The bad thing is I don’t think my old thermostat in my one that is Volvo thermostat that he took out of my car. I don’t think it’s still in one piece because he said he wasn’t even able to remove it out of my car. I’m pretty sure this man said that he had to take it out in pieces, but he asked me if I wanted it or wanted him to take it or wanted me to throw it away and I said no I’m keeping it, but he never tested. It was OK so I spent $250 and maybe I didn’t even need a thermostat and the thermostat that I paid him for was $150 and it’s not Volvo so I test the car what kind of machine do you have? What is it called and where do I buy it? I wonder if I should try to get someone to take out the new thermostat or to mine being it’s no longer in the car? And again I thank you so very very much and I’m sorry if my question sounds silly, but I’m just trying to figure this whole thing out.

I know this might be a bad question desk you or anyone here because I know you’re not here to see or hear in my car but before this so cold mechanic fixed my car and I’ll put the new thermostat in my car was always so quiet. I mean, if the hood was down and you were standing right literally next to it you couldn’t even hear it running And probably two years ago with the hood up in the car. He would not even know it was running anyhow yesterday and today when I started the car, it sounds almost like a race car or something. It sounds like I can’t put it into words. It’s extremely loud like it’s never ever ever been before and it’s idling super fast iMessage this car guy about it the other day I guess yesterday and I mentioned that to him and he said nothing that he did regarding taking out my old thermostat or putting in the new one could’ve made my car in a sound like this or be idling faster or whatever but obviously it would be an awful big coincidence again if it wasn’t and I wasn’t trying to accuse him or blame him for doing anything intentionally I figured maybe because he told me that he knew nothing at all about Volvo and he hated my car he said and he said he had a hard time even getting a boat out. I was thinking maybe by mistake it up by accident Maybe he touched something or move something around that is making my car. I don’t really fast and be extremely loud, but he said that there’s nothing that he could’ve done to cause that,
I’m just wondering how you guys feel here is there anything that could’ve been done to make my car all of a sudden be sounding louder than what it ever has ?
