Anybody else care to make a suggestion about my now "intermittent" PNP problems.

I just got out of bed. Went out and turned on the car again, the flashing arrow & lights are still present. I Put it in "D" and it felt like it had 1st. I put it in reverse and backed up, and then "L" (low) and that had some pull to - so I think it had first there as well. I repeated this for a little bit.

I don't know whats up. How am I to know if I need a new PNP switch, or if my switch is out of alignment by a millimeter, or...a bolt is an "inch-lb " to tight (lol) ??

Thanks for any replies, in advance.
Just wondering what other people's experiences are, who DIDN'T get it working "easy" like others may have.

Peace guys.

Merry Christmas everyone!
I know this is a slightly long post, and I've already asked for help of you guys and received it. But the problem persists and I need advice.

I'm still having trouble with my PNP switch.
1st, let me say that I have a new PNP switch on the way from FCP, but I attempted to get it working today in case I HAVE TO bring it to the shop.

The problem was that I had the flashing lights again, mode lights & up arrow.

So I went at the PNP switch, trying to rotate it slightly then bolt it down again and see if the lights would return to normal and it would shift into the right gears.
Well, I ended up loosening the two nuts that hold the shift cable in place so I could adjust it very slightly, and then tightened them up. I got that weird "PiiIING" noise when I tried to start it in park.
For the hell of it I tried starting it in Neutral and it 'tried' to turn over. So I hooked up my booster pack and it started.
So I made some more slight adjustments (rotating the PNP slightly to the left) and the lights stopped flashing, and things seemed to be in gear when I put it in Drive.

BUT, just as I was about to take it for a quick test drive I decided to put it in Park. The car will not stop/Park. SCARY
My street is a slight incline, and when I drove forward then shifted into park & released the brake - the car just kept rolling backward. I could feel a "click....click....click" in the button of the shifter knob as I slowly eased off the brake. It rolled backward with my hand on the shifter knob, and only stopped when I reach my wheel chocks/blocks.

I seem to be trading problems here.
Now the lights have stopped flashing but the car won't Park when it's in Park.
Needless to say, this is useless and very dangerous if I can't park the car. I don't know what to do now. We have snow coming, and that's why I wanted to try one last time to 'quick fix' this before the snow comes.

Please, any insights, thoughts, suggestions on what I should do anybody. Gurus - chime in if you have the time. I know everybody is enjoying Christmas time with family and friends :)

I'm at the point where I don't know what to do because there are so many GD variables! Is it the shift cable position, is it the 'alignment' of the PNP switch, is it my brakes(?), OR is the switch just needing to be replaced.

Note: I have very little trust in the indy import (volvo/bmw/audi) shop here now. When I asked them about PNP switches they gave me the "this guy is dumb" answer. I asked them if they had the "PNP alignment tool" and he (the owner operator/mechanic) told me "I've never heard of such a thing". Are you kidding me!? I was like so.. you guys just drop it in and... He just gave me a weird face and repeated that "He didn't know of the tool/part".
I am a novice when it comes to cars BUT I have spent, literally, DOZENS and DOZENS of hours on this PNP switch situation since summer. Maybe even days, no joke. I am quite familiar with the 'area' now. Haha.

What do you guys think??
If you need more info, specifics - please do ask.

Lambo, I don't have an answer yet, but another user has a similar problem so I'm gonna post a link to the thread. Hopefully somebody stumbles across a solution.

As my post before, I have installed a new PNP switch but not work exactly. The old switch which has been re-built was
replaced back as shown on the above picture. The car works perfectly and just let the malfunction indicating light off at other post. Another ABS light is just on. I have to find solution again.

As my experience to install and align the PNP switch by rotating and align the position of shift rod: if the location of rod towards the window, the P couldn't be engage. Adjustment of shifter rod is painful. Luckily that the old PNPswitch putting back into original old marks works very fine. Hope this experience may be a little help to you.

my wife called me this morning saying her car is showing signs of a failing/dirty PNP switch as well. I talked to her at lunch and told her to try the back and fourth gear shifter cleaning trick and if that didn't work, we'll have to replace it this weekend. I don't feel like trying to clean it. I'm going to just put a new OEM switch in and hope for the best.

I attempted this procedure with this part: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/Volvo- ... -S70-V70-1 It was a no-go. The reverse light never went out - it only rotates about 10 degrees. I positioned it in the midpoint of its travel and am hoping for the best.

Others have recommended getting an OEM PNP switch as opposed to the one I ordered. I tend to agree.
