Just a little epilogue. I have just completed a 600 mile round trip family vacation to Lake Tahoe. We drove in terrible bumper to bumper traffic, climbed steep mountains under heavy loads, and generally experienced all kinds of situations that should make a misfiring car die.

We had no problems whatsoever. I'm glad to report that everything is good again. Here's hoping your problems are easy to find and the final remedy comes quickly.

I know this thread is old but man, I just had to bump it.

I'm having similar problems and while I don't think it's the same, this is really how a thread should go. Lots of info, pictures and most importantly, the author reporting back the solution!

I came across this super old topic, but thought I would chime in with a really long term followup. My car now has 225,531 miles. This whole misfire episode happened 70,000 miles ago. Everything has been fine with the ignition system.

I've done a lot to this car during the 4+ years since the original post. It continues to service the family daily. I got one of those new Volvo "Heritage" badges on the car for 200K miles. I am shooting for the 300K badge.

Now I am dealing with worn front suspension parts causing abnormal tire wear. I'm thinking it's time to update everything.
