'96 and '97 850's need the same reset process too (either dealer or special tool).

Unfortunately, the 3100 WILL NOT reset the Service light.
Nor will any other conventional OBD ll reader.

Ya still need something Volvo specific. This ONLY applies to 96-98's.
The cheapest way I've found to do it, ( short of pulling the lamp ), is the Draper:

Sorry to wake the sleeping dragon again on this. But I have a 97 850 glt and have tried several scan tools, all Autel based. I even tried an Autel Maxiscan 802 that claims to reset not only check engine lights, but service lights too but no.... I finally settled on a 619 from Autel because it is the best for the price that suits my needs. But I was wondering if in the last 6 years since this was brought up, if anyone has found a tool or even programming I could put on my scanner to reset the light? I pulled the bulb for the time being, but my ocd is killing me. I want it working like it should..

This is what I bought and it reset the light ~ 2,500 miles ago…

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-10-in ... 05&vxp=mtr

Not sure when the light is going to come back on again (my guess is that I will see the light at 5,000 mile intervals). This tool did not give me the ability to program the system so that the light comes on at my preferred oil change interval.

I think RSPI has a video showing this tool as well…

hope this helps...

There are now several solutions to reset the service light. The easiest and cheapest is VOL-FCR, if you have a Windows laptop you can get all set up for about $20.

My AUTEL is working great for codes, SRS,ABS, service interval, and ECC on Volvo, BMW ,VW. It sounds like the 1997-8 was a real nasty year for Volvo.

Yep! It cleared the light, but does not give you the capability to adjust the mileage interval at which the light comes on.

So exciting! I just ordered mine. I can't wait to give it a go. The idea a world without a Service light on fills me with delight!

Though, having experience with awaiting packages from China, I'm sure it'll arrive sometime in the Spring! :)
