It is one oily messy thing to deal with, at least on my car and it was plugged. Hard to get to with big hands and not always the right tool.

I'm with ya there Big Hands!! Same here. It was pure joy trying to feel around for that oil leak. It's was covered in that silty, oily dust. Like carbon that never comes clean!

I'm betting the PO fibbed a bit and didn't touch it, or properly touch it.

Sigh... the list is steadly growing for a car that was supposed to only need a little attention. This ones turning out to be more like my ex wife... ME ME ME!!! ;o)

Thanks Shane... I may just take you up on that and buzz by for an experienced set of eyes to look it over after I get it rolling again. I keep finding little things, like the front bumper only being held on by one bolt. The lower grill being held on by zip ties. I can't imagine what I am missing on the motor! My respect for the PO is steadily shrinking!

Yeah... the skillz aren't the issue (I like the new pond analogy though). I was just really looking forward to something I didn't have to put a whole lot of effort into so quickly and here I am a week later, intake system on the ground and watching the mailbox for parts to arrive.

Spending time on the ground isn't as fun as it used to be for me! Maybe it's the 7 years worth of building in the LoCost that dulled it and it'll return once I get to drive it. I hope!!

Good News... Good News.... I hope!

So my seals and a couple of other goodies from RM European arrived in the mail today. I have to give kudos. Even with the foul-up with the credit card (my fault clicking the wrong one), the parts arrived in 2 working days!! I'm impressed. He said they opened up a GA warehouse, so I can see more orders coming from them!!

So I slapped the seals in (OK, actually I hit them a lot) and reassembled the top of the motor. After figuring out the correct firing order (DOH!!) and reconnecting the MAF (DOH!!! DOH!!!).... turn the key and .... click. CLICK?!?!? Dead battery, so I pull out my absolutely unused Rocket Power Jump Pack and turn the key and ..... Vroom!!!!!

So it idles fine.... let it sit for 10 min.... no drippage. Lets go for a little drive. So take a little 5 mile jaunt. Return to the garage and.... Nada. Slight burned oil stink, but that's greasy hands on hot things, residual oil burning off, etc... so after 10 minutes I look again and.... NADA!!!! Hu Rah!!!

So I'm not sticking the fork in it just yet, but I am pretty sure (OK, I am positive) that I had HUGE leaks at the cams and I am hoping that it simply traveled in such a way that appeared to be a RMS. I'll be keeping a wary eye on it for a while and I have to get under the car and do the torque mount and oil cooler hose, so I'll have a reason to get some good drive time in on it between now and then.

While I was in there tonight, I got a look at the PTC. There is a new hose clamp on it, so someone has had it out (or at least the hose off it) recently, so maybe the PO wasn't all that big a schmuck and just didn't do the PCV service in time. Although, that forward seal was crazy loose and simply slid in by hand, so it was fairly old or the wrong seal!

So my first "emergency" service on a Volvo went fairly well. This is my first time having 2 cars in a house for several years and I must admit that it was nice being able to walk away from it, wait for parts and repair it, all without worrying about how to get the kiddo to school or getting to work. I'm calmer now over the deal and will probably have a chat with the PO here shortly... wish me luck!

Well done. I've got my fingers crossed for your RMS here as well. Now that you've got the cam seals in, do a glove test to see if there's crankcase pressure - if not, then your PCV is fine, and your RMS will be fine too. Knock on wood.

No... we don't!
I've been fighting with my cousin's S70 T5 for about 6 months now trying to get the timing right. It's almost there... I think it needs a new CVVT hub. Whether it's my car or not, it's a Volvo, and I'm determined to fix it!

Yes... Glove test was first thing after firing it up. Wasn't going to have those great new seals popped out under my watch. I stuck the glove over it at idle and it lazily fluttered. Cracked the throttle and it puffed slightly for a second before deflating a bit. The real fun came when I let off the throttle. It nearly sucked the glove into the filler! So I don't think that there is any problems with PCV, but I may be wrong!

Took a little drive this morning before dealing with the DMV and I have yet to see a drop from that side of the engine. Only about 10 miles so far, but it's looking good!

Got a little side tracked with insurance and registration for the beast...

Now have about 80 miles on it and there is a little drip here and there from that side but nothing like what was happening before. It might just be residual. I Purple Power'd it and hosed it down. I'll keep a watch on it but it's looking pretty good. I'll climb under this weekend to do the cooler hose and lower torque mount and really give it a good looksie.

All signs point up!!!

There's a whole drama that goes with that statement that I won't bore everyone with. Suffice to say I have lived here 5 years ahead just got my NC license.

I have a NC, WA, CA saga still going on with my daily driver that has yet to resolve.... After 5 years! Stupid!
