What noise do they make when bad? Leading up to tho one that leaked oil was a clatter on cold starts. I thought it was just the high mileage on my engine but went away after CVVT hubs were replaced. June

Low growl that is engine rev dependent. Another tell tale is it comes on a second or two after engine start, as oil pressure comes up.j it tracks down nicely with a hose pipe in your ear as you are away from accessories so the source is clear

I never thought to try disconnecting the VVT solenoid and see what that does , would have been good in retrospect.
