Fuses were blown for the immobilizer, dash, light switch, and headlights. Popped out the light switch and was greeted by perhaps the worst wiring job I have ever seen. Like seriously... this is horrendous. Who takes the time to break out the soldering iron and then does this, and doesn't even bother to tape up the exposed wires? Spent a good part of my day fixing this hack job, insulating it properly, and uninstalling the boost gauge. Makes me wonder what other wiring projects the PO attempted.
At least he took time to solder that crap together and not just use crimp connectors

 I never like using crimp connectors or vampire clips, but one would have to be pretty awful at soldering to make it look that bad.

I just don't get how you can do that bad of a job. If I was going to do it wrong, I would have just shaved a little insulation off of the wires, wrapped the harness wires around it, then tapped everything up and call it good. This is just over doing it sooo wrong.

After fixing that mess, I now no longer have the bulb out indicator on every time I turn on the headlights. Also bench tested the boost gauge, and miraculously it survived. Might wire it back in sometime in the future.

When I did my latest core, I didn't drain the system prior to removing the core. I put a heavy-duty contractor black bag under the core and collected it all on the driver's side. Didn't spill a drop. Found green coolant in the car. Topped of with G05, for now. Under time pressure to bet the car back on the road prior to some surgery.

That's exactly what I plan on doing. System is full of Volvo blue-green coolant.

Project is moving forward. Got the car washed and waxed. New wiper blades. Did a littler interior cleaning. Ordered sparkplugs, fuel filter, air filter, and cabin air filter to complete the tune up. Also picked up some decent used license plate brackets. Painted them black for rust prevention. Removed the old bracket, cleaned up the mess behind it, and installed the new bracket with new hardware. Now she's ready to get plates tomorrow.

Still have the peculiar issue with fast turn signals when the headlights are on. Need to investigate further, but not sure what to look at.

My white paper towels have detected no coolant drips under the heater core. I ran the heat full blast for a short drive with the windows down. Now there's a brief smell of coolant for a minute when turning on the heat but it rapidly dissipates. Wondering if the PO did replace the heater core but didn't bother to clean up the coolant mess inside the plastic housing before reinstalling. Will monitor coolant level in the bottle for the time being.

Trans leak seems very minor. Haven't noticed a change in the level on the dipstick. Fluid still smells new.

That headlight switch is probably toast, there was a recall on that, too, but probably expired now.

Losing voltage on the light circuit will fubar the turn signals, Shirley.

To: What am I doing, or Abscate. Could you please take a picture of what you guys know as the TCV ? I have a 99 S70 Turbo AWD that I don't think has a correct turbo control valve or an accurate vacuum hose diagram or an actual FPR at the exhaust manifold on passenger side at firewall as per the only vac. hose diagram from PNP and thanks inadvance. jjss70.

You probably have the 1998 vacuum hose diagram under the hood like mine.

Volvo Fail

I did a complete sketch of the 99 system in my thread on cold idle troubleshooting last year including sizes. Will find and link.
