Problem now is with lower speed limits, average speed cameras (like in UK), traffic light cameras with speed on green capability, driving a car is a lot less fun especially when dodging all those idiots not paying attention to anything other than their phones. Even with over 300 bhp, my 'R' does not feel really quick these days when even a mini-van is approaching that power output!

On the 960 (straight 6 built off of the straight 5), the common ticking is from a faulty oil pick up tube. Thats what I was told by plenty of people. So your i5 being a 93 could have a faulty oil pick up tube or bad oil pan O-rings as scot850 mentioned.

The OP had the oil pan serviced and tick has gone away.

With my NA I feel very much in the way on interstates when even diesel heavy duty pickup trucks have acceleration to match older supercars. Thank goodness we don't have average speed cameras yet, but I wonder with all the new automated toll payings if they're going to do anything with on and off times.

I believe they may have started this nonsense in Eastern Canada in Ontario. Again average time between entering and leaving toll roads.

Might as well save up for a bicycle!

Way back in the '60's I heard of someone complaining the Kansas Turnpike checked speed by the entrance and exit times. This guy said he would get off on the road side and take a nap to kill the extra time gained by speeding. The speed limit there and then may have been 80 mph.

To anyone reading this, the problem is back again as the weather cools, I tried using a liqui moly lifter repair additive on my most recent oil change, which didn't solve the problem. RobertDIY has a video showing that pre 96 lifters are an inferior design, I might go through with pulling the cam cover and cams and testing the lifters and buying new to replace the ones that are stuck, or spend the money on 20 new lifters despite spending too much on getting a new-to-me v70xc going. Will update this thread if I solve the problem.

Don't go tearing into it till you've try the following. Call a local Porsche repair shop and see if you can find some. Put the 502 in for 500 miles and change the oil. Use the 306 till winter then change to Castrol 5W-40 or 0W-40.

It would seem the O-Ring improved the flow but never address the original problem fully.
