For wood, interior or exterior, it is best to use wood filler. Caulking and speckling compound has limits. I have used MINWAX and Elmers products, but found FAMOWOOD for the exterior door and window repair and restoration.MoVolvos wrote: ↑03 Oct 2022, 11:24.BlackBart wrote: ↑03 Oct 2022, 11:11We're doing some rehab and painting window frames in a courtyard. West facing, gets beat up with afternoon sun. I'm finding it interesting that because we previously used good quality paint, it's still flexible and doesn't sand all that well. Also, some of the spackle I used to fill cracks has shrunk away from the wood. I'm just caulking it this time.volvolugnut wrote: ↑30 Sep 2022, 17:49 I competed the 2.5 year project of painting our house and replacing roof trim and siding under the eves. The last part finished was above the garage door where you can see the change. My wife really likes the new look.
I do still have an exterior wood door I want to replace with steel.

Bondo for wood is used now for cracks or you can use either silicone which is none printable or siliconized caulk which is. The bondo dries fast and sandable but best to practice with siliconized caulk before attempting the cracks.
