Had an interesting visit from Blacklab247 today. Our long overdue appointment with my steam powered Vida computer and Dice unit finally happened!
It was amusing, as although I know how to connect up Vida to a Volvo, I use it for diagnostics so rarely it is hard to learn how to use it, or if you do to remember how!
I have to thank Blacklab247 for breaking his car to allow the 2 Chuckle Brothers (clowns!) to play with the Vida system to try to find his SRS fault and then try to diagnose it.
I think we both learned a lot from this and despite some bumbling on our part I believe we were successful on a diagnostic. There are still more things we need to learn on the capabilities of the system, but I for one now have more confidence in using it more. It may actually be time to upgrade the system to a current decade laptop and retire the old one, but hard to do when it still runs!
Has anyone kept the same Dice unit and upgraded to running to Win 10 or 11 with Vida version 2014D??
After he had left, I then took a look at the goodies he dropped off. Several headlight wiper units that he has had tested by running them on his car. Good thing is that will help me to strip and clean them knowing that the motors are in a park position. The ones I have (one had a burnt out motor and the other a seized gear) I had no idea if they were at a rest position to know where the parts should all sit.
Now the fun begins!
Neil.

yes, i bought a touchscreen notebook from sprawlmart.
Then ordered a thumbdrive with win 10 , it bypasses the operating system on the notebook, i had to add more memory to make it run faster, from two to four meg ram. it was $100 for the USB thumbdrive. $200 for the notebook, RAM was cheap on amazon, kept my old dice.
The USB drive also included VDash and the Haynes manual..which i find useless.

i also bought a subscription to AllData for the interactive color coded wiring diagrams.

Thanks for that info and the link to the supplier. I've passed that info onto BlackLab247 as he expressed an interest.
Makes me think I may ask Santa for a computer upgrade with the additional hardware options. I like it is also loaded with Vol-Fcr.
Much appreciated!
Neil.

I put in new headlight bulbs, crawled underneath to see which windshield washer pump I have and how in the world to get at it, then found a lot of thick grease on the right side inner end CV joint boot and all around the engine mount. I'm thankful for the thoughtful Volvo engineers for placing that half circle grease guard above it, so that it doesn't spray all over your belts and the front of the engine.

Thors went in for a refurb last week and had a call today that they were ready for collection. Exterior still looked good after 19 years but the inside was starting to corrode and flake

A slow leak in one of the new tires, I put the wheel on a tire remover stand, broke the bead both sides of the rim and painted the inside of the rim bead with tire mounting goo, same on the tire, theres still a very minor leak, probably the valve stem but with 4 inches of snow and 3 more coming I can live with it til spring.
New battery fixed a bunch of warning lights and slow crank, $150 amazon right to the garage door.

I went to a Volvo meet today at the John Clark Volvo dealership in Dundee, left home at 07:30 in darkness and watched the sun come up whilst I was driving north to Desperate Dan country. A great selection of Volvos attended with everything from a 1960s Amazon to a 2016 V60 with everything in between
Put Kära up on the ramp for a wee look around and the mechanic said it's the cleanest V70 he's ever seen
In typical Dealership fashion they had a few out of date items for sale and I decided to buy a BNIB alloy wheel which doesn't match any other wheels I have, the price was the only reason I bought it and I'll stick it on the garage wall once I make some space. Where else will I ever fine a brand new Amalthea wheel again...

A few days ago I replaced the front passenger door on Greta. The old one was all scratched up, possibly by dog paws. It's an up/ down pattern and a lot of them next to each other over a pretty big area. I touched them all up when I got the car 2 1/2 years ago, but they were still bothering me very much. Last year I found a nice one in a junk yard, but it took me a while to find the time. The color match is not perfect, but very good. I am happy with it. It came with one broken window regulator guide, but fortunately I had one in my stash and it's a relatively easy fix.
