^ No, I'm afraid that the turbo box is different from the NA box. But I'm hoping to maybe go down to the valley in the next week or two and look around the yards down there. If push comes to shove it is still available from Volvo. Funny thing is that I've seen them laying around the yards before. Not a part that most folks are looking for.
However I received a bunch of parts yesterday, including the head gasket, so it shouldn't be long before I get to turn the key. Still have to get the timing belt kit which has the mechanical tensioner. Because of that, I apparently have to get the engine running first in order to set the belt tension properly. Seems like a royal PITA compared to the hydraulic type.

Just set the tensioner in the middle of the range to start. A 6mm hex key is perfect for the adjuster. Remember you go past the middle position , the ease off and come back to it per Volvo.

Turn the belt through two revs once on by hand , then set tensioner with engine off, before starting

The setting isn’t critical , per Jimmy. Reminder to me to set mine after a valve job from last year

Just found out that the Volvo valve seals have to come from Sweden, unless I want to pay the supper outrageous price from a state side distributor. So I'm thinking that I will take the chance and try the Elring brand ones. If this was a fresh engine I might think differently, but the bottom end does have 161 on it, so these seals should last at least till I'm looking at a total rebuild.

In the mean time I made replacement oil cooler lines.

Well, stop the presses. I managed to put hands on both sets of the Volvo seals I thought I had in inventory, so one will head off down to TExas tomorrow.

We would love to guinea pig the Elrings - but Robert has already done that, and they dont last.

In case you were wondering about doing the seals from top of head, to quote Robert , : I would rather go 5 rounds with Mike Tyson than do that job again that way"

Those seals have been the hold up on installing the head. Beginning to see some light....
