I’m going to shut this poll down and start another, but with non-US gasoline octane numbers as well as US. I think the data is poisoned with some 95+ votes.

But you drive a V70! I can't imagine any modern car needs 100 octane fuel. I do wish Shell would bring back 95 octane though... June

It’s painful at a car show when you see a guy who restored a 55 Jag Coupé, having to have fabbed half the parts himself, parked next to a guy who just paid $350 to have someone detail his 2019 Vet he just financed.

I run 93 in everything. Ethanol free 93 is available at the lake so I run it whenever possible, hauling it home in 5 gallon cans. I put it in my lawn equipment and also the GTO's because they sit a lot. I don't need the octane for the 66 Goat because I had the guy who CNC'd the chambers in my Edelbrock heads make them 110 CCs for 8 to 1 compression. Originally they were 72 CCs or about 10.5 to 1 and I used a 50-50 mix of 93 and 100 octane low lead from the nearby airport. Now it will run 87 if I choose to and no more trips to the airport for green gas :D .

I started putting 4 oz of stabilizer in each 5 gallon can and taking it to the lake with me to fill up after complaining to a friend that knows a lot about the inner workings of lawn equipment that I couldn't seem to keep a Stihl anything running for more than a season without taking the carb apart and rebuilding it. He told me ethanol in the fuel was causing all my problems and I think he was right. Ever since I started avoiding it, everything from my chainsaw to my log splitter has run with no issues, even after sitting for months.

New poll, values reset, new choices that include non-US RON values.

Please, if you're outside Canada, the United States, and Brazil, vote for the RON value(s) you use.

More on this here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_ra ... or_(R+M)/2

If I owned a station, and 100 had even a small chance to make money in my area, I'd have that pump in fast. Maybe even fix my fence. But seriously, there are so many enthusiasts who want every potential edge. Yes, even if it won't actually give them an edge. And yes, even if their left brain knows it won't actually give them an edge, they'll still buy it. Same with high ethanol. Many tuners tune for this fuel because it has a ridiculously higher energy content than regular fuel, and engines make more hp with it.

None of this applies to 90% of this readership

I can remember buying Sunoco 260 in the 70's in the NJ/NY region. I think it was rated 96 octane under the existing system at the time. I would run my Renault R10 down to nearly empty once in a while and put 260 in, and it would feel like a Posche to me. It really did wake up that 33 hp engine! ;-)
