ATP-205 first became popular on this forum in about 2014. Recently it has again caught the attention of frequent-posters. The first major proponent here was JDS60R, who in 2014 (or so) had already been using it in his shop for years. So that's not an analysis per se, but does give you some info that the stuff has been used for many, many years without bad reports of it causing more leaks etc. It may not be a glorified brake fluid product.

Here is some info from an older thread: viewtopic.php?t=72191 (there are many others of course ...)

It's *always* better to just fix the leak! But sometimes not practical.

Just read a few reviews on Walmart site. One warned do not use it in a sealed system. He said he'd used in a differential case and the pinion seal blew out in 100 miles. so he's saying don't use it in power steering either. Crankcase should be okay, as MVS commenters have said. I wonder if that's why none of the 4 auto supply chains in Minneapolis carry it.

So.. I dumped a bottle of this in today with a fresh oil change and I'll see what happens.
So, I've put 7k on in 8 months. It didn't leak for the longest time and I went 5k on that oil change. Now I'm 2k into my latest oil change and it isn't "dripping" yet, but it's leaking around the valve cover since I can smell it after driving it for about 25 minutes. Not going to say it's the ATP since this is a 25 year old 4.0 Jeep and they were always kind of leaky to begin with.

But it still doesn't drip any oil so it did square up the rear main seal.

I also have used ATP 205. It isn't a miracle, but if you have a seal that is just a little dried/worn, it tends to do the trick. I wouldn't use it in a confined space (a differential) as it seems to gas off and the smell is such that I'm rather sure it is flammable.

I add it at the beginning after an oil change, things start leaking about the time the oil needs to be changed.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

My 1999 Honda 400ex has been burning oil. Checked the compression today and it's at spec so it's the valve seals as I suspected.

I'm really not in the mood to pull the head and replace them this year So I'm going to buy another bottle and see what happens. I'll probably only put ten hours on it this summer.
