E-brake doesn't work...

Not trying to derail

If one has a non op e-brake system on an automatic, and the brakes go out (descending from the rockies), can I shift into 3rd, then 1st? Or is my only choice to use the side barrier to slow down (or coast out if possible).

My problem is the entire cable snapped because the drum seized. All the e brake hard wear and cables are now missing (had to be taken out for car to drive).

You can engine brake an automatic just like a standard it will help slow you down.

Complete brake failure on cars is really rare thanks to dual brake circuits. If you maintain them at all, you can drive for your lifetime without experiencing brake failure.

NAPA shoes fit like a glove although I did have to grind away the lip on the inside of the driver side rotor. I'm not sure how the expander mechanism works but I couldn't get it to compress which made it difficult to slide the rotor on. The passenger side with the working cable was easy and and everything fit correctly. I'll be sending the other ones back to FCP. Now I just need to get motivated to replace the broken e brake cable.

The fact that you can spin the wheel with your finger means they aren't too tight. Of course I can not tell if they are too loose.

When you get them right 2-3 clicks on the star wheel will freeze the wheel.

For shoes adjustment, I applied Volvo method : tighten with star wheel, then back up 5 notches.
