Just wanted to add to this really quick. I was at my local PNP and all of the Volvo were missing their wheels. There were 12 in the yard at the time. Three wheels between them. So this may be a hot ticket to grab while you're in there.

Certainly depends on the wheels. C70s for example almost always have sought after wheels (namely Propus, Comet), and some P2s often have wheels that are worth grabbing (Tethys). Then, of course, when a P80 T5 rolls in with Perfos, they're good to grab.

Alloy wheels are the first thing the junkyards harvest because they pay back what they paid for the car almost immediately.

Harrys is $30 for alloys and most other yards are $50-60 each. no tire. You have to take the tire off or else you buy that too, then pay to dispose of it. Thats a fun job, bead breaking tires in the summer heat - and no, you can't bring your sawzall into the lot.

Lol that's hilarious Abscate.

So my local had wheels on every car except the Volvos. $43/wheel and tire combo. From the pics all of them had get tires on them. Which is actually what I went there for  guess I'll just have to set an rss feed to try and grab them the day they come in. It's really weird that all the Volvo wheels were gone, as Volvo wheels only fit Volvo's... That is if I understand the hub size correctly.

So maybe they're pulling them and selling them like you said.

At the Minnesota PnP yards I go to, they will take an old aluminum wheel in exchange. They call it a core charge ($15) so that they can still get the aluminum scrap value. That makes it $21 per tire/wheel combo.

The PnP's which have been devoid of Volvo P80's and few P2's, over the last year, never have the wheels on unless they are steel wheels, and even those go as they sell the tires and rims to used tire sellers and the wheels go to used wheel specialists. Never seen any alloy wheels unless they are there with wheel locks on. That also goes for all brands of cars, not just Volvo's.

My main yard is pretty cheap for wheels, only $20 each, plus a $15 core. That's for one with a good tire, I think with a bad tire or without a tire, they charge $25 each with no core. If the tires are bad but still up to their standards (they consider a dry rotted tire with a decent tread a good tire, so they'll charge accordingly), just pop them. Empty the air and poke a hole with a screwdriver, and you have a free tire carcass and you've saved $10+ a piece.
They will pull some sets of wheels and mark them up for sale in the office, but for the most part all wheels are left on cars. It's only higher end aftermarket or blingy wheels that end up up front.

I took my Sawzall into Harry's no problem to harvest a Honda Civic roof for my bro.

And have gotten several sets of nice alloy wheels there at very affordable prices.
