This is what I sent him: I doubt he will be able to get back to me...haha
Hello Robert,

thank you for your kind services...I have a 1998 Volvo s70 that came to a stop when gas pedal is pressed it will not move however it rolls forward it physically is binding when you try and push it backwards in neutral. it is front wheel drive and has a light turbo. Its a dual spec Volvo came here from Sweden.

I have been on the Mathews Volvo forum the diagnostics I have done according to the forum giving me suggestions:

1. jacked the car up front tires spin forward but not backwards back tires spin forward and backwards.

2. smelled tranny fluid and smells normal.

3. NO check engine light on

4. checked all fuses and relays all good

5. reverse lights come on

any ideas?

Thank YOU

Did you check that one (most likely the LHS) axle has not jumped out or one of the axles has broken?

Hi,

Just to add a tiny bit more information in case it helps, i tested mine today to see if it would roll forward in neutral too and yes it does. It does not roll if in one of the normal drive modes though. I was stopped at a red light on a slight hill slanting down this time instead of up so it rolled forward in neutral.
This is the 1998 v70 again automatic transmission.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

Yes, I'm still here. Usually check forums and YouTube comments, a lot more often than email messages. :?

If you have both front wheels off the ground, and the vehicle in neutral, both wheels should spin in both directions. Usually when you turn one wheel forward, the other will turn backwards.

If you have both front wheels off the ground and you start the car, and shift to reverse, both wheels should roll in reverse. If shift to drive, both wheels should roll in reverse.

If you remove an axle, it is ok to try to spin the wheels with the wheel off the ground, but you should NOT roll the vehicle on the ground with an axle removed, it will destroy the bearing. If you decide to pull an axle loose, you really need a 36mm socket, 1/2" breaker bar, and a 4 foot cheater pipe ($20 at Home Depot). As for the cheater, I decided to purchase a 10 foot pipe for a little more, then had it cut there into 3 pieces, 2 x 4' pieces which left me with 1 2' piece.

BTW (by the way) a internet troll, among other things, is someone that make post on forums just to see what people reply, they really have no issues, just want to get a rise out of people.

If I were you, the next thing I would do is make sure the drivers side CV axle is all the way in. It is near impossible for the passenger side to come out, so check the drivers side first. If you go to this video, at 5:51 you can see how I installed one. You really don't have to do anything to check to see if it's in. No jacking, no wheel removal, just get on the ground and look up at it. You can also take a long screw driver to see if you can wedge it out.
