It is as easy as Razorx descripes, it will fit and work on all the cars with a VVIS manifold, regardless how old the car maight be. Regardless how big the engine is, 2.0 Ltr or 2.5 ltr engines. The most significant difference I noticed was on a Italian 2.0-20V engine wich runs on LPG.

One small hint, please weld the connectors very well, otherwise there is a change on mailfunction. So don't use the blue or red Scotch Locks.

The quality of construction is top notch. Good components, a well designed PCB and the solder (all done by hand) was utterly perfect; I couldn't improve upon a thing on the hardware. I got this delivered at 9am and by 9:10 I was building a cable loom for it! Yits included all the connectors and the mounting hardware needed in the kit, all I had to get was two lengths of two core automotive cable and a metre of four core.

While most installations of this unit were to a LHD car, mine is a RHD... The instructions are mostly the same of course, the only difference being you need slightly longer cables and it's inconvenient to route the cables via the fusebox, as your loom would have to pass the hot exhaust manifold. Instead, I lead the loom over the centre console and behind the glovebox - from there I found the original unused Volvo grommet, removed it and made a hole in the sound damping foam.

It pokes out just in front of the air recycling flap and from there it routes to behind the glovebox.

The original Volvo grommet just needs snipped in two places and with a little silicone grease becomes 100% water-tight again.

The routing under the bonnet (hood) - I basically followed the ABS loom here, first connection branching to the coil while the other runs behind the battery to the solenoid.

Doesn't look out of place in the slightest, a very clean almost 'factory' look! :)

Now, the important question; how well does it work? The answer is ... VERY WELL! The timidity of the 2.0 engine is totally gone and it pulls like a train from almost nothing. I have the 4 speed Auto and I have to say this car is now 10 times nicer to drive, the pick up is improved and any nervousness the car had is gone. The car changes down a lot less when dealing with roundabouts, which is a vast improvement and the feeling of being exactly in the wrong gear on corners has lessened considerably.

Overtaking is a joy, as when you hit around 4.1k, the system opens both channels inside the inlet and you can actually feel a tiny sensation in the seat of your pants as the car continues to develop power all the way to the red-line.

In short, it's very good!

I see that you put the VVIS mod into a 2.0 ltr engine. Amazing what kind of change that mod proves in driving the car. When you drive a 2.0 ltr engine, running on LPG (what happens a lot in the Netherlands) with the 4 automatic gearbox the improvement is far more bigger and better.

Nice to see that you also like the change !

Thanks for the RHD write-up!!

I just purchased a '95 VVIS inlet manifold engine and transmission from a pick and pull with 114K (that's kilometres so around 75K miles) and I'm looking for a suitable donor car. The bottom end is going into a '99V70 but I have another block which is being built into a 20 valve (originally a 10 valve)

I would love to try this out also. Can't wait now to try it!!

I noticed you did the wiring very neat.

I will modify the manual because of the need for longer wires in a right hand driven car.

I know this is a silly question, but how did Volvo arrange the timing of the fully open position of the valves from factory?

Sorry just read the first post and I can see how Volvo arranged it. This certainly is much better. Nobody wants full torque above 4100rpm!!

I basically just read this whole thread and I'm curious to say the least. I have a 1996 850 GLT(Northern America) and I'm curious to find out if this would work on my 850 with the air box thermostat mod/ throttle body plate from the 960. I could easily undo the airbox thermostat but wouldn't think of not using the throttle body plate. Could I possible use this mod that Razorx invented with what I got? Thanks.

I just went outside w/flash light to check...no solenoid in spot shown in pic. I'm guessing this is a Euro thing, thanks anyway.

By 1996 Volvo had abandoned the system and VVIS was no longer fitted. They should have talked to Yits instead of removing it, lol! :mrgreen:

Hi volvo fans!
I'm new on the forum and I like reading it. Couple months ago i red this topic (and bigdaddylee's solenoids thing) and i was well, it's a pretty good thig so I saved the e-bay.nl link to buy it. Now i realized suddenly disapears this nice product. I hope becouse of the success of the yitsbox. Can you give me guys some experience about how it works and it would be usefull some information where and how can i buy it (...it would be adressed to razorx/yits). thanks
