I went into the ring with a dragon in just a tunic and a dagger, but at they end of the day, the Dragon was dead.

Yup, there's a "25 year rule" for importing cars. Pretty easy for anything older than that. If we're talking over $10k, I'll look to an E30 touring!

But if the same car or a very similar model was sold here, you can bring a different version of that car in, no matter the year. These were the “grey market” cars. The wagon / Touring was never sold here.

The E30 was sold in the us from 1984 I think, maybe as a 1985 model year, so there’s no sneaking needed.

One quirk I found is that if a part you want from BMW was only installed on Euro cars, they will not let you order it through the parts network if you’re in the us. Even if you have a buddy in Germany who tries to order it.

Could this be a construction related project and a particularly dangerous tool?

...or another rusty Volvo project?

Good news, Tourings are even cheaper over here. One could get as many as three good condition ones for £10k. They're largely unwanted overhere, as are E30s in general (excluding the M3). The car market here has decided they're markedly mediocre in all aspects, and so aren't worth much as investments or classics.

Who would want a Teutonic square appliance when you can have the shapely curves of a Jaguar 🐆?

Because it won’t start...?

Now, if you should offer me a very early XJ6 sedan (‘68?), or a Mark 2 sedan, or for that matter an XK120 OTS....then we’re talking!

But I would argue the E30 is the direct descendent of the 2002 (forget the 320i), an extremely clean-lined, elegant box, fantastic open glass greenhouse, just the right size, and a blast to drive! And that small 6 shriek is not the same as a Jaguar big 6 snarl, but it is sweet.

Also, they’re not classics, they’re never going to be classics - they built way too many of them.
