I like your style!! I would love to start restoring mine but times are tight and basic maintenance is all I can afford hence the reason I am fabricating the trailer hitch.

It'll be cool to see how the hitch comes out! I wouldn't mind a hitch on mine, but I don't know how well it would tow my project cars...

I had the same idea. I bought my V70 for $300 in crap condition and rebuilt it. I didn't care how many people told me it wasn't worth it, it still had good bones and was (and still is) totally rust-free. Just one little chip on the passenger fender that I put on the car that has a bit of surface rust.
These cars aren't about resale value when you start dumping money into them. It's about making them last.

When I was searching for the specs on the hitch I came across a few pics of Volvos hauling other vehicles on flatbed dual axle trailers. So it's not unheard of but I wouldn't haul something that big very far or fast. Stopping distance would be hindered greatly and I'm sure the wheel bearings won't be very happy with the weight.

Got my windows tinted today. It looks SO much better now! It should definitely help keep it cooler inside too.

That's a good looking 98!

Sunday I did a driver's axle swap on the V70. I had noticed last week the outer boot is split and the car will be doing some long highway mileage this weekend. I've been looking for a good reason to pull that rusting aftermarket, NA axle anyway! When I pulled it, I found slight play in the CV joint, so I'm glad to get it out of there. I installed a used Volvo turbo axle I got from the junkyard, it has a nice tight outer CV and the original Volvo sticker is still visible on the half shaft. Working great.

But I also noticed the control arm ball joint is just a bit loose on that side, so time for new control arms. The Volvo-branded ones on there came with the car, looked old when I got them but I don't know how many miles they have overall. I have added 50k on them. Considered Meyle HD but ordered Lemforder from RMEuropean, I'll swap them in next week.

I know I could use control arms. The most important things I have to do on my car are the tie rods, control arms, and front and rear motor mounts as well as the torque arm bushing.

I did an oil change and a tune up on the 850.

I'm glad I did the tune up because the cap was held on with only one screw

Apparently the lower two screw holes in the head were re cut to M6. The head was rebuilt by Clearwater and maybe they did this because the original holes were buggered up. The standard thread is M5.

PO probably didn't know how to deal with that and just left out the screws. I ended up re drilling the two holes in the new cap to accept the bigger screws. This was tricky because you have to drill into the brass inserts in the cap. Then I found some M6 Socket Cap screws with just the right length to install the cap. Looks a little funny but it works fine.

Now I'm trying to chase down a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. The motor is misfiring a little at idle and there is a hissing sound coming from the intake area. Fun stuff.

Thanks! The fog light bulbs are from Amazon, Nokya brand. I really like the look of them, been running them for a little over a year now. They look great turned on with just the parking lights, I love that I can modify the relay on the '98!
