Installing a rebuilt 351 Windsor into my son-in-law's 1994 Ford F-150 (replaced the blown 302 motor) and would crank but no-start. Went round and round banging my head trying to figure out what I'd missed (I've rebuilt a couple Ford motors before) even pulled out distributor a couple times to check if 180 out, firing order, etc., finally found that I had forgot to plug the electronic distributor wire into the harness. Fired right up!
THEN....was falling on it's face/low power; idled great. I had checked the timing (10deg BTDC) or so I thought. Truck runs a whole lot better when you don't have the timing at 10deg AFTER top-dead-center.
Sometimes you have to put aside all of your "experience" and and not "over-think" things when trouble-shooting.

Yeah... I tend to overthink things quite often! I've gotten much better at avoiding those headaches.

You can clip the thin bit with tin snips and reinstall that without redoing all the work

This step is ISO approved by Volvo management..
