Oh. I do hate that car. It is possessed! But then I am just too stubborn to be beat. I have a list of tasks for the winter. Most of the issues that are outstanding are age related. Stuff like the dash breaking in new and wonderful ways is the sort of thing that drives me mad. Main dash mounts failing, that is almost a given and I have repaired on 3 previous P80's.
My current list is:
1) Front brake disc dust shields. Originals and one has rusted through at the mounting point. New Volvo parts on shelf to fit.
2) Dash mount and brake to fix. Have another better one on workbench waiting on my plastic welder to be returned by buddy.
3) Both rear door lock actuators need thermo-resistors replaced with copper wire fix.
4) Tailgate struts. Parts on order.
5) Figure out where the oil dripping from the turbo is coming from.
6) Have a closer look at the muffler condition. Good T304 Stainless system is $1200 US + shipping if it needs to be replaced.
The frustration with this car is that just as it gets to the point where it can get used more something new and wonderful goes wrong with it. The CDM is that sort of problem that stops me getting to have the front and rear bumpers painted to fix the accumulated scratches and dents due to our wonderful and honest Calgary drivers. The hood could do with some paint to fix the stone chips. Problem is some other issue comes along to redirect the improvement funds elsewhere.
Also I can't pass on a car to a new owner not working as it should. I have a standing offer for the car and a 2nd guy at the new Volvo dealer also wants to buy it. It may come to that point next year.
Neil.

Naming cars seems to be a current fad on MVS. For your V70R I nominate the name Kristina, Swedish for Christine.
Christine, the possessed 1957 Plymouth.
Kristina, Scott's possessed 2000 V70R.

I can say yes do from top its not big hassle move alternator and power steering away.ZionXIX wrote: ↑20 Oct 2021, 18:13I removed the AC compressor from the bottom instead of the top. I wish I had just move the power steering pump and alternator. Definitely will do this next time.xanthefin wrote: ↑20 Oct 2021, 10:14 Yay got alternator out of S40. In the end i was baffled how people have had problems getting it out. Took me 30 minutes and taking it out after moving power steering thingy i just lifted it directly up.
Or maybe as someone changed it to other Volvo model alternator and this is smaller in physical size which is plus.
Worst to me was tensioner as its 15mm and cannot put ratchet there and i wished to have longer 15mm wrench as like i did try first from top.. but the correct place to put wrench (when short at least) is from front of the car directly toward to tensioner horizontally so not vertically and push down.
Anyway i am not gonna even probe my diode bridge when i can see it.
Exploded diode leg areas (black burn) more than on one diode.. like well burned silicone.

.. to add after hunting down rectifier this alternator itself is some hybrid from 740/940 Volvo with S/V40 shell.

i think breaking it down into seperate jobs and tasking time and funds along with taking into account the weather as i have to work outside,i also suffer copd and arthritis so i am time limited for each job,if it goes smoothly i do ok but this car has been a challenge getting it watertight both cooling system and heating and had to do the rad twice as first was faulty all this in the pissing rain and wind

For heavens' sake, will you be careful; you're the only Abscate we got.
Things are a bit different now that you don't have the in-house labo(u)r force, too, I'll wager.

As long as it was a Bosch! My Dewalt impact driver has been away at Dewalt service shop for 8 weeks as they can't get parts!
Now did the tool knock any sense in to you?
Hey Duke1, thanks for the note. I have been at this car for over 9 years and it has never been at a state where I fully trust it. Car has done less than 8,000 miles in that time and been in pieces for up to 6 months at a time for replacing the cracked rear AWD sub-frame. So at 20 months you are just a beginner!!
Stuff breaks on cars, that is a given, especially at least 20+ years old. What drives me nuts with this car is the random and unusal stuff that has gone wrong with it. The list I have up above in my last post is mostly what I call normal stuff. The CDM, sub-frame crack, suspension groaning ignition issues and broken dash around the glovebox. All issues I have not seen in any of my other P80's over the last 20 years. I even don't have problems with stuff that can be repaired as leisure and does not stop using the car. Problems I have had prevent the use of the car and having zero confidence in using it. That is after sinking over $25k into this car! I could have bought many good P80's for that!
Neil.
