I would be VERY dangerous with that amount of land! One day I plan to buy a nice big plot of land in the country and build a nice shop and have room for my own personal junkyard. Maybe some trails to play around on with some ATVs and junk cars :lol: .

Those extractors came out of my toolbox about 6 times last week. It’s a lot more fun than Dremel or chisel. The extractors on an impact are lethal on stuck bolts

A reminder that everyone should own the Irwin 394001 and Irwin 394002 bolt extractor sets. Most recently, I stripped the external torx bolt holding on the front wheel hub. No extractor could grab the mangled, fragile head. I used the largest extractor to reach over the head and grab the circular flanged base. Worked like a champ with that tightly torqued bolt. They haven't failed me yet.
Absolutely, everybody needs a set of these.

An extractor will not solve my issue... The threaded part of the shock mount sheared off the mount. There were only about 2 threads left. The new shock is on, held on with a nut using those 2 threads, but I am not going to drive the car like that.

I am now thinking that I should drill out the bolt holding the mount in place, remove it, drill it out and mount a new bolt running all the way through. Turn it into a bushing, in oher words.

Is there a hole that already runs through that mount, or is it a solid piece?

Put a huge zip tie around the shock as a temporary measure if you need to drive the car. Welding on a stud is the answer here

Here is an in depth thread on the subject. Options range from replacing the entire delta link to grinding down the thread until it tapers and then welding an M12x1.75 bolt that cut to the appropriate length. Good luck. Personally I would go the delta link route but there doesn't seem to be an easy way out of this one.

I took a week off from Volvo work, so today was just…

Flush the new SMI steering rack On the T5, pumped and dumped 2 liters

Secured the power steering lines with old cooling group hose as chafe guard. Im using zip ties rather than the really rusty hardware. I put some URO rubber to hood use here.

Did final torques on all the subframe and motor mounts

Pumped down the AC on Ekat, the silver S70. It held vacuum for 3 hours so I charged it with 640 g R134A. I achieved 30F delta, decent AC. Compressor sounded good

Finally, a good use for some URO rubber!

On that topic, I just had my buddy’s ‘12 X5 35i in for some work this past week, and I discovered that the shop he had it at last installed a URO valve cover to replace the no-name Amazon one which had been cracked on the internal wastegate vacuum reservoir (typical on BMW N55 engines). He told me that they said it was a genuine BMW cover. Riiight… This is supposed to be a reputable Euro shop in the area. Any shop installing URO Parts products is probably not the place to go.
I’m just waiting to hear about a problem with this one. I thought it had already failed, but the vacuum leak this time was from a split hose. Nice save, URO valve cover, but I’ll get you next time!

Ordered a new fuel filter. My old one was fully corroded to the point you could not read any labels. I have not changed it, and from the buildups i suspect no one else has for many years and kilometers.

Fixed the shifter knob so I can reliably get the key out of the ignition. Glued up the sagging rear door gaskets.
