Re: USE OEM ONLY for these:
I stick with Bosch for electronics (plugs, wires, sensor, etc.) Which come stock on these cars anyway. For oil and filter I always go with Mobil 1 - no issues there. For control arms, tie rods, etc. I use moog from local auto parts store where I used to work. I know the quality is good from customers reviews, so I started to used them and everything is holding up great. Anything like oil seals, engine mounts, and bushings and what not that are not readily available from local auto parts stores I go to IPD. Haven't had to replace struts and all the other fun stuff yet so I'm not sure which I'll go with.

I had heard rumours of Wahler quality slipping only to find out for myself that this is the case.
The photo below shows a new thermostat that had covered the measly distance of about 250kms on my T5 2001 V70. The result was a blown head gasket.

I use Wahler tstats in my 2 Volvos and 2 BMWs.
Zero issues with Wahler.
They last about 60K-70K miles, then it takes a longer time to get heat in the winter.
I usually replace my tstats every 60K or so, simply b/c:
- they are cheap.
- they lose the spec at 60K, i.e., taking a long time to get decent heat in the winter.
- to prevent mishap.

Yes, that's the beauty of the forum, we actually get enough of a sample size to spot potential problem items.
Very sorry to hear that Mike, and definitely appreciate knowing to consider other makes for the thermostat. Gates maybe ... and/or I have actually been reading positive comments about Stant Heavy Duty.

I religiously use and recommend Wahler for Volvo. I've pulled many Wahlers from service without spotting breakage and replaced them with new to be safe.
That particular break point seizes the assembly in a closed position; no fail safe.
This week my Swedish Auto Parts heater core ruptured in my 2000 V70. A slow leak that appears every 15-20 seconds or so.......photos to follow.

I've never used the IPD ones, but have read a lot of forum posts. The HD lineup from IPD has a good but not spotless record. Occasionally they have used suppliers that gave them crappy parts; usually the HD line has been good. I would go with the XC90 ones, which are the same as the x70 and 850 ones: Volvo-branded part number 30683637.
Broken spring seats are a real PITA, I just buy the blue box ones http://volvopartslisle.com/part/OEM-Vol ... pring-Seat

What about cv ball joint kit, I heard about GNK/Spidan is the oem for Volvo can you please confirm?
Front break pads it´s Honeywell Jurid/Bendix same as original ones I think rear ones are jurid also.
Spark plugs NGK PFR-7G Laser platinum, adjusted to gap 0,7mm, this is the best for this engine.
Spark plug wires = Bougicord

And yet another out of the norm breakage of a Swedish Car Parts heater core in my 2000 V70 after only around 60,000kms and only 2.5 years, .
The base of the heater core cracked just like a cheap aftermarket unit.
Here's a Genuine Volvo core to compare:
