OK good info thanks. As the thread sidewinds again ...
Dissolving the oil (or not) would be irrelevant to shelf life. Remember "dissolve" basically just means "mix," quite different from "break down" or "react with." So indeed the acetone and the oil dissolve slowly - they don't mix well. And "Aprotic" is again most relevant to solubility not reactivity, it would be more consistent witha *long* shelf life of the 1:1 mixture.
I can't see anything to be concerned about other than evaporation when storing a mixed batch, it will otherwise be stable a very long time. You can always top up the acetone. Then again it is so cheap you can mix it up fresh every time, true!
Maybe the mixture isn't marketable simply because the solubility is so low - the two separate out very, very quickly after mixing.

I wonder what physics. Property makes the acetone the choice for carrying ATF as penetrant?
Surface tension is right in the middle of the pack...MEK better, hexanes better
Why Not pet ether and ATF?

Availability? Nobody (AFAIK) tested MEK:ATF versus acetone:ATF

Butanone AKA Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is a plastic welding agent, it the stuff that is in the tube of "model cement" you used to "glue" the parts of scale model kits together. Not exactly an ideal substance to be used on today's tupperware cars.
Remember what happened to the model parts if you got too much Butanone on them ...

Acetone will melt plastic like butter too. It’s great for removing sharpie from babies when toddlers get their art on.

I’m guessing most any solvent Will carry the ATF into crevices if surface tension is the factor.

You missed the biggie, a solid reason to keep a small bottle of Acetone around. Super glue has only one chemical weakness ... Acetone. Acetone will wash Super glue right off. Great for when a smart ass glues somebody to a chair.

The 95 in my driveway has OBD-II, and your 95 R does too unless it is an oddball.
Do you mean 95 NA's don't? But NA's do too ... Anyway, the discussion of what came with a 95 850 is moved here viewtopic.php?t=86024, as described a couple posts up.
Hexanes/pet ether are non-polar and will dissolve the oil, likely the emulsion is preferred so that you deliver the oil not a mix. MEK and acetone have very similar polarity and it seems would perform similarly in a mix with oil, the MEK will even evaporate a little less quickly. But MEK also nastier than acetone as far as inhaling vapors. So acetone seems to makes sense.
I've never tried it but MEK will almost certainly dissolve super glue. MEK and acetone are very similar for dissolving plastics.

I'm pretty sure we've been through this before, but let's just clarify.
Yes, my car is a '95. And yes, it does have OBD II.
Moving along, the CEL showed these:
The only one I'm worried about is the ECT sensor, should be heading over to rip one off this weekend...
Also, I wanted to do a compression test to see if I had a head leak. turns out Autozone rents broken compression testers.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/fcMKg1SNfiUcMRVEA
Made a mess of this oil change, but I did manage to get it done... (current mileage 258k, used Pennzoil "high mileage" engine oil)
Turns out 10w-30 isn't the most readily available synthetic oil around. Any options on switching oil weight?
And finally, I was cleaning out my spare tire well when I found some of this nasty junk:
I have no idea where and how that nasty green water got back there, but it does concern me...
...Slowly piecing my life together, Shihab
