I like them because they are somewhat cheap to own and operate.

I still drive a P80 for a number of reasons.

1. I like how it drives!
2. I fit in the seats, and they support my back in the right places.
3. I can maintain it, and it hasn't given me any curve balls I couldn't handle.
4. Keeping it maintained and basically stock, it's reliable, even at >300k miles.
5. I like it. I've put ~240k of it's ~319k miles on it. It's familiar.
6. All in all, the maintenance has been pretty minimal. Just very regular oil changes at 3,333 miles.

For me it's not just one reason.

1) it physically fits me well. The seats really are comfortable. A friend who has a brand new XC40 got in my 1999 s70 2 weeks ago and immediately said "These seats are comfortable. I mean really comfortable. Why do they not still make these??"

2) it's a manual. I like manual. Not because of performance.. they are just fun

3) I could afford to replace it.. but why? I really hate the idea of a functioning car going to waste. I could find someone to carry the torch and take car of it but why do that?

4) Aside from a "every 6 months there is a glitch in throttle/engine" the car works really well. It rides really nice . would I get rid of it?

5) I do like perplexed looks on people's faces when they realize my daily driver is 20+ years old. :-)

Yeah, some people think I'm nuts that I daily drive a 22 year old 1/4 million mile BMW. My reasons for that are the same reasons I daily drove my '98 GLT and '00 R previously; comfortable, reliable, plenty of space, etc. However, I wish I had as much space in my E39 as my V70R. P80 wagons are the BEST for space. Hell, even the sedans and ridiculously spacious. P2 S60s are tiny in comparison. Rear seat space in those is a joke. I think there's more space in the back seat of my E30 .
