Ugh, E39 M5... I would love one. I've had my E39 528i touring for 11 years, and while I love it, it's no M5.

We fought and slayed the dragon of transfer of PS rack parts…

Aluminum heat plate
Center mount
Left plate mount
Installed , mounted, then tightened the ps lines with engine out. I needed crows feet to do this , even with the engine out.

Also managed to coat a headlight reflector with rustoleum silver, at least visible success.

Well well.. is that reflector usable how now?
I mean i have similar project ahead as last time inspector did scare me buy new headlight assemblies which i want prevent as Volvo made these super good easy work on.

And been looking out that chrome paint is nah.. only good would be aluminium coating on there like form the factory(?) but this is kinda hard in home to do.. then been looking alternatives and silver too is been one.. if any good result ones out there i am listening. Plus i am cheapskate.. but i rather still go in quality. Having bank account just under 20 bucks right now its too one reason

.

It worked well enough with some inexpensive LEDS but not sure about Halogens. Much better than I had hope seeing I did this in 2012 with an 98 S70 T5 and the results were just nah for sure, though a different paint. You can also remove that center piece in the low beam if using LEDS.

Swapped some Gates fuel tank caps (from FCP) on the T5 and Blue Steel for OE ones with cracked gaskets. I had thought about replacing just the seals (from iPD) to keep the Volvo-branded caps, but with shipping it would cost more.

I also replaced coils and plugs to fix the misfire on cylinder 5 and sometimes 3. Noticed the original Bosch coils were made in Germany, while the new ones came from Slovenia. The new plugs were platinum. The old ones smelled foul, as if the fuel hadn't completely burned off, and were surprisingly dirty.

Looking at the photo, the old plug gap appears twice the size of new gap. That could cause the misfires.

Good eye! I hadn't even thought of measuring the gap on the old plugs. I'll check them when I get a chance.

In the small groove running around the lock body there is a steel ring and holding the ring in place is a tab that runs across the entire body of the lock, so once you get the end of the tab out of the way you can pull the steel ring out a little bit and cut sections off, once the ring is out the lock should come apart. once you get the lock apart and fix what's broken I used a piece of coat hanger to make a new ring, and then put Loctite on the ring to make it impossible to take apart

in this picture you can see the small groove where the coat hanger is, and the large section i cut out while following the metal tab (the end of the metal tab pokes out where the steering lock pieces live)

I don't understand the goal of this work. Could you explain me what you are expecting ? As a newbie, this seems a bit weird...
A small pin broke inside my lock and i didn't want to buy a new one if I could help it, so I took the old one apart and fixed the pin inside. The goal of my work was to save money, and as a bonus I know how a Volvo ignition lock works.

Had hoped to finish the winterizing of the V70R so it can be tucked away for the winter. Planned to remove the summer rims and fit the 'slave' rims which have a set of worn out tires that can be sacrificed for flat spotting with sitting, and do an oil change. I had thought about lifting the car off the ground on axle stands, but don't like the idea of the suspension being left unloaded over 5-6 months. It could cause damage to the bushes.

Plan was sound, execution less so. Turned out the oil jugs I thought were 5W-40 Castrol Edge were in fact 5W-30 for the other cars. I had one jug but not enough for a full oil change. Decided on Friday to go to Costco to buy a 5 liter jug after finding other outlets for oil were charging $75 CDN!! Many places do not have this brand in this weight. Checked Costco.ca and they have a 3 pack of 5 liter jugs on sale for $116. Decided to go to Costco to pick it up to find that is the only version they don't have............! Came home and ordered it on-line, but delivery supposedly today (assuming the -15C and 8-10" of snow don't stop it happening!).

Ok, let's do tires. Decided to check the pressures of the 4 tires as I recalled one liked to lose pressure and it was naturally the one I had fitted on the in-accessible corner last year. I meant to get it fixed but forgot.

Unfortunately, although I put the tires away last year with 36 psi in them, only one had maintained close to that at 28 psi. 2 were at low 20's and last one was at 13 psi. Oops!

Of course it is now tire season and no chance to get them fixed, so I have pressurized the tires to 40 psi to see if any can be used as is for the winter and maybe I can get one sorted when tire season is over.

Well, oil change will now be Wednesday and maybe I can get that one tire sorted by then with luck!

Neil.
