There are a couple videos around on how to set things up, but basically, you need to "zero" and lock the cams on the back side, and then deal with rotating the VVT sprockets CW and hold them there (if needed, depending on the hub type) while you install the belt.
Same goes for dual VVT, just more hub hassle to deal with,
Any cam timing changes (if those are happening) need to happen AFTER you get everything in place and the belt on.

There is only one position for the crank index to line up. Take the head off.
Now you can set the crank to the mark.
When you put the cams on , install them in their marks.

Any cam timing changes (if those are happening) need to happen AFTER you get everything in place and the belt on.
Keep in mind the crank is NOT on the mark with number one piston at TDC. Believe the mark on the crank pulley.

This is something very important to keep in mind. Many people don't realize that the timing marks have no relation to TDC on the number 1 (or any) cylinder. Easy mistake to make, considering many engines DO use this as a reference.

I planned on lining up the cam marks with the notches in the cover. Should I wory about truness if there was no overheating?

It’s really a good job for a machine shop to wash it in their parts washer, then true it for you. They’ve got all the tools.
