Took the T5 to get hose clamps at the local Napa store for upcoming coolant system maintenance, and I get a misfire in cylinder 5 on the way back. Guess it might be time for a new distributor cap, rotor and wires, too.

Let me know if you want some UBG brand on the FreeTrain Bruno. You can often get another 5000 out of a cap and rotor with a Dremel on the brass bits.

I’m flying LGA a lot these days so can drop them in Queens. Did Dr DoFuss move to the Bronx finally?

Today I put snow tires on Blue Steel in anticipation of a family trip to Montreal next weekend for my cousin’s surprise 40th birthday party. While the tires were off, I also fixed the front mudflaps, which needed a total of six MTC rivets. Checked the coolant/water mix, which needed dilution, and adjusted the engine side of the lower radiator hose, which was seeping coolant.

What’s UBG? I do love reusing and recycling, sure!

Ha! He did move to Bronx but moved back to Queens temporarily while his better half embarks on her fellowship in Berlin. He’s there now but we check his mailbox regularly. Thank you!

Extremely relevant to me, as I found plenty of parts in the garage today that were ready for the rubbish bin, including an OE coolant reservoir tank with cracks in it. (Why was I saving it?)

Finally took care of the PCV system on my '97 at 240K miles. It was overdue, with the original nylon lines cracked in a few places as others have documented many times before.

Used But Good

Reserved for used parts of known good provenance

Shagg delivered the last load of studio apartment stuff to Caitlin in West Village yesterday, and her as well. Starts new work on Monday!

On the way there, she rolled over 250,000 miles! Thanks to Counselor for taking such good care of her in her previous life. Her slow seep of oil on the head gasket is still not recurring after a top end removal and head bolt retorque about 15k miles ago.

Best of luck to Caitlin at her new job!
Head bolt retorque that worked... impressive! The last two times I tried that, it made the leaks worse. Not on these engines though.
