How can I tell if my car is supposed to have a passenger airbag? Seems strange that a car with SIPS doesn't have a passenger airbag by default, but I can't tell if mine just never came with one or if I'm suppoosed to have one.
Is it a US market car? It has never been clear where you are geographically.

Would a '97/'98 model year need the Transmission Adaptations programming I've seen mentioned?

Today mostly worked on interior trim pieces. The dash and tailgate are cracked, I have those out to repair and repaint as needed. The plastic trim on the rear seats seem to be making a lot of noise, I'm sure there are missing clips, I'll address these with foam and cork tape most likely.

If I remember correctly I don't remember doing any type of adaptation. When I purchased the 98 S70 T5 with 230K miles in 2012, the transmission fluid was thick brown coffee with a tinge of silver. Did a full flush and another the following year. It ran exceptional the first time and the improvement was less so the second time though it ran normally without any kind of adaptation.
.
Blessings,

I took me 4 hours over two days to change the oil filter on my V70. Had a leak from the filter housing but could not deal with it because I was late to a Christmas party. Next day, I took off the filter housing again, checked the O-ring position, and hand-tightened the filter housing. This time it didn't leak (originally tightened with a flute cap wrench). Even though I consider myself a decent DIYer, this simple oil change was very easy to screw up without the knowlege from this forum. I originally took the car to North Myrtle Beach Walmart, and after they looked at the oil seepage, they refused to do the job saying they didn't have the right wrench.

That’s odd. These filters don’t require much torque, typically 10 ft lb max. You just need to ensure that the o ring is in the right groove, and isn’t folding over.

If it is the later paper element style, then it is easy to get it wrong by either fitting the oil 'O' ring seal in the wrong position, or tightening the plastic case up too quickly nipping the 'O'-ring. I still prefer the old metal can style. What was good for my 65 Volvo and up to my 98, I struggle to see why they changed? (obviously profit - They charge the same for the paper element as the metal can!)

The paper style uses less material (metal can), less waste in land fills. No need to recycle metal that was never used. I do agree metal can are easier to use and more reliable though.

I’m impartial to the filter style. If anything, I prefer the cartridges since they’re easier to inspect for any debris or evidence of wear/damage. Usually they’re easier to remove if they’re designed well, but that’s not the case all the time (Toyota, I’m talking to you!). The white block filters aren’t the worst, but not the best. I like a hex fitting to use a socket on rather than needing a cup style oil filter socket. BMW was always great about that until the N52/54 engines, which went to actually the same size cup as the white blocks.

Merry Christmas everybody!
